New start for Pakistan
According to sources Pakistani politicians are attempting to reach common ground between party's to end misuse of the blasphemy law.
Dialogue initiated by Rehman Malik, leader of a religious party are clear signs of Pakistan's attempt to reduce tension over the law, which has become a bitter issue that has highlighted the power of the religious right in Pakistan. Two senior politicians , Govenor Punjab Salman Taseer and Minorities Minister Shabaz Bhatti, were assasinated earlier this year after they called for amendments to the law, which is often misused to settle personal scores. One of the main persons opposed to critics is cleric Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, head of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam party, who have direct links to Al-Qaeda. Critics say the law is not only mis-used but is also too vaguely worded to be fair. It provides for the death penalty for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

This is what is happening in Pakistan. The question is: Will Mr. Malik be assassinated before he can help bring about change?.
To quote Mrs. Fauzia M. Sana. High Commisioner of Pakistan. " Pakistans national response to all terrorist acts has been and will continue to be calculated, deliberate, measured and consistant against the mind-set that promotes and nurtures violence in the country by hideing behind the facade of religion.(UnQuote)

Good for them. This can only be a step forward in becoming a member of a world community that generally frowns on religion-based executions. I like Pakistan and the Pakistanis. I met many of them not only in-country but in Saudi Arabia where many of them live as "guest workers". Nice people, very gracious.

I hope this trend continues to grow and prosper. Speaking for myself, I would rather read news of change being brought about, as opposed to the sensationalizeing of terrorists, as some Forum members seem to be obsessed with.

You could be right. I for one admire any person who is willing to risk their life,as opposed to complaining about things.

Amen to that. Speaking of which, did you catch the BBC in America broadcast yesterday? They interviewed a Libyan who was wonderfully eloquent in his expression of hope for Libya's future, even quoting Patrick Henry. I know eloquence is a natural expression in Arabic, but mastering it in English and with conviction and passion in his voice -- it was inspirational. I sure wish more Americans believed as that man does.
(referencing Chillcutt. I posted it without quoting and after the above message. Sorry). |

This is actually a Muslim problem, and only Muslims will be able to solve the problem. This religion does need to do more in the fight against Militant Islamist's, as well as address many internal problems. I believe that if more Americans worked with Muslims, instead of continually marginaliseing them. More can be accomplished. As for me...if an Imam ask me to radicalise, and kill Americans, I will ask him to give me a pistol. And upon seeing if the gun is loaded, I would turn that pistol on him, squeeze the trigger, and Project his sorry ass straight into the next deminsion. Thats a fact.
