If you try to avoid a fight the best you can and the other guy just won't back down, what other choice is he giving you? The people responsible for "disciplining" him ought to be suspended without pay. If they don't want their students to defend themselves, then it'sTHEIR responsibility to be everywhere at all times PREVENTING the bullying in the first place.
One more example of morons being in charge of our kids' education. I guess they can't teach common sense in college programs for teachers . . .

My daughter happened to be looking over my shoulder when I was viewing the video...
...the final outcome isn't always that sweet. She recanted an episode at her school where a female bully was doing the same sort of thing, only to have the "victim" shove her. The bully lost her balance and fell down a flight of stairs...you know, those really hard masonite school stairs! The bully was hospitalized with bruises, broken ribs, and a busted eardrum. Her dad pressed charges and the victim was charged with assault!

According to the discipline policy, my 10 year old kid will be suspended (or worse) if he retaliates or otherwise defends himself against a bully. The policy has zero tolerance for violence. I told him directly to ignore that rule if he encounters a bully. I showed him some techniques and will stand behind him if the situation arises.

If it was my kid that got suspended for defending himself, I'd take him to Disney World while he was off school!

I remember being that age (5th grade). Being the fat kid, I got bullied a lot. I never fought back... until one day I was in the parent teacher conference and my little sister was out side the classroom playing. through the window I saw the bully kid start to push her. I left the classroom and gave him a good butt kicking.
The principal told me that since I was not known for fighting and was defending my sister I got off with having to write a essay about violence. I'm sure I would have got suspended in todays world.

Nice, bet it hurt.
 The little kid looked like a pretty good fighter though, he was ready to go.
