Time to move - again.

Another areawide car chase ends within 1/2 a block of the Skid Row Joe residence.

Drifting off to sleep in the wee hours I noticed the distant sound of two emergency vehicle sirens, and the faint sound of a helicopter engine and it's air-chopping blades. Neither sound is unusual given the flyover pattern of air ambulances to Dallas hospitals, and emergency vehicles responding to assorted emergencies.

The sounds of sirens were getting more numerous as the chopper's proximity over my home was getting closer too. The sirens sounds seemed to diminish, for a couple of minutes, before getting closer and closer. Along with a circling helicopter overhead, that was the telltale sign of yet another late night car chase taking place in my area.

As the sirens got closer and closer, I cranked open my mini-blinds in my bedroom to peer out in the street. Sure enough, flashing lights, headlights and multiple sirens were heading up my street to the intersection of a much busier street I live on the corner of. First was a mid-'80 white, mid-size POS Chrysler product heading to the stop sign of a nearly blind intersection, summarily running it and turning 90* onto the busier thoroughfare. It made the turn at perhaps the highest speed it could without tire squeal. One marked police car right on it's tail, paused ever so slightly before running the stop sign then, an unmarked dark gray undercover car lights ablaze a few car lengths behind the police cruiser. Both Ford Crown Vics, with the throaty sounds they make when a foot is put into their accellerator pedals. The searchlight of the helicopter highlighted the fleeing car as it drove by. Four or so more police cruisers passed by in the next minute or so. The chase ended about 300' away around the next block - I didn't hear the crunching of metal, so they apparently stopped and perhaps bailed. The searchlight concentrated in the one area, so they were obviously captured. No ambulance arrived so the perp(s) were taken into custody in good shape. I decided not to walk over for a better look, staying on my patio.

No place is truly safe. There was a murder recently in Disney's Celebration, even.

There are some "Getto Apartments" 2 blocks from my house. My neighborhood is ringed with apartments and duplexes. The neighborhood is a pretty normal place, but only look to the duplexes and the apartments for any kind of illegal drug or other illegal activity.... well after 3 years of fairly quiet drug dealing we've now had 3 murders in the apartment complex...

The "Cop Shop" as well call it, a strip mall with a CHP and city PD located next to a cafe... You know there's always a cop there... is directly across the street from the apartments... Yet still murders. I don't understand.

An intersection with the stop sign on it is on a corner I live on. Cars routinely speed down this busier neighborhood 35 mph zone at 50 to 60 or so mph. I too, have some low-life apartments 4 blocks down the busier neighborhood street. I plan to move somewhere else in the general gulf coast region one of these years, when I can decide that is, the when to pull more of the plug on my worklife schedule. It's dirt-cheap living in this too large for me, small home I bought at a hefty discount, during the oil-crisis in Texas in the mid-'80s. I'll miss that part is all.

Ya know, Jim, I'm 'bout ready to. I've had my eye on an area of the Alabama gulf coast region that I may move my headquarters operation to. The lingering winter temps. and occasional ice/snow that invades N. Arkansas, N. New Mexico, and N. Arizona, frankly leave me 'cold'. Although, the Las Vegas desert basin is much to my weather liking in the wintertime.

A friend of mine in Vegas says housing prices there are at about 50% of what they were five years ago. Too many people moving there pushed the prices up, up and up and now they are coming back down to reality.

And there is always something to do in Vegas.

How about Omaha, NE? Walk to the AGM, mingle with the rich and famous and like minded investors.

Move to south Ga Joe. We've got plenty of high and dry, good land for sale cheap (compared to anywhere else) that is on an undeveloped intersection of I-16 that is just waiting to be developed. It is ~2 miles from where I have set up some campsites. Keep in mind that the nearest WalMart is 20 miles away so if that causes you any consternation it will be an issue.

I have attached the link to what you have to be careful of around here.wildlife

If I see a guy in an ML he bought new dragging bottom, because of broken rear springs, I'll know who it likely may be.

It couldn't have been me, I didn't own one. In 1973 I was banking/investing over $20K a year, buying common stocks now worth well over..........oh heck who's counting the money anymore.......paying cash for my new 1974 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, I think you get the picture.

Nice try though, sport.

I was talking with an instructor for Baltimore Gas Electric yesterday after we finished some annual training. He described a piece of property owned by a fellow instructor---its 50 acres on top of a mountain in West (by god!) Virginia. The last 4 miles to his house are dirt roads. You lose cell phone signals about 1/2 hour before you get there. There are no sounds or sights beyond the mountain and valley.
The drawback? You must be self-sufficient as the nearest hospital is over an hour away. Winter is a survival exercise.
Sounds pretty good to me.
