Yay, no more car payments.

My last payment on my truck was processed today. Two and a half years early. My last car payment ever...

Now to save up for that suburban and 240D - or two - or three

- Peter.

Nothing I can do about my mortgage but it's real nice having the vehicular monkey off my back.

If you set the equivelant of the payment aside every month this will provide or at least contribute to a replacement vehicle some time in the future. Since you are already used to the payment it should not be particularily noticeable.

If you can find a good investment vehicle or make lump sum payments on your morgage if practical. This will really lower your cost of that morgage. The morgage angle can be almost the sure thing.

It is not always the best thing to get to a finacial positon of owing nothing. Usually though it is desireable as soon as possible. Your money is not leveraged anymore for inflationary gains on your properties value.

Although the way things have been going except for select areas this is no longer the same consideration it once was. Since we only live once and no debt contributes to the comfort zone it is the preffered status as soon as possible. Very hard to lose the roof over your head when it is not encumbered even through a period of uncertainty for an individual.

When I bought my 1999 Mercedes 300ETD (brand new of course, and at an amazing discount due to my parsimonious cunning), I paid cash, yes that's right CASH!! Auto financing is the Tool of the Devil, and I know all about being a Tool...

That's the plan.

I had leased vehicles for awhile, but I'm off that now. I drive a less expensive vehicle that I had placed a large DP upon, and have a small loan that I'm knocking off.

Just have to be the first to pry that plastic protective wrapper off the steering wheel. No doubt I'll wise up some day and go back to used cars that I can buy with 100% cash.

Congratulations! When I bought my E300, just for grins, I took out a little loan so I didn't totally deplete the bank account and since I'd never had a loan before, I thought it might do my credit rating well.

I finally paid it off last year and it did feel pretty good.

Because of a lot of factors one can get a pretty new car for much less than new even with extensive waranty. It takes some digging but they are out there. The new car mental thing only lasts for perhaps 60 days for us at best.

I'll buy my next work truck new since I keep them long enough to get my money out of them. But I don't know if I'd buy a new car, you can get so much more for your money used.

MB and BMW have some pretty good CPO programs, with lots of nice fresh off lease cars on them.
