Here's something a friend sent me today. I don't normally even read stuff like this, but I thought this was pretty thought-provoking and worth considering. What do you all think?

Did y'all see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week.
They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA .
There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During
the special they are going to show truckloads of items - USA made - being brought in to replace everything and will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..

It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs!

I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART and ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA ' FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA ' I WAS SHOCKED SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT'S FROM CALIF.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think while the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets?

70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.
Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA !!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes
Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all.


You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example.
The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.
THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!
Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on April 1st and continue it until May 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.

START NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.
If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains?

I am ALL for avoiding whenever possible, purchasing goods made in, or originating from Red China just because they are cheap, but places like Wal Mart cater to the millions upon millions of Americans that ONLY care about things being as big and as cheap as possible.

Those selfish, cheapskate US consumers could care less if they are made by communist Chinese children paid 6 cents a YEAR.

A very successful business model for lots of US importers and retailers though, giving the US public what it wants.

It's killing this country on many levels, though.

Unfotunately the US will likely lose a trade war with China. In response to Trumps suggestion of a 25 percent tarrif on Chinese goods (not enough in fact it would need to be closer to 40 percent) many econonmists have recently commented that the US is simply not able to bargain from a position of strenght in this case. The damage has already been done.

So it was said about Japan in the 1980s. Their demographics have been their downfall and China has similar problems. Scratch the surface and the red giant in the east is weak in many areas. Internal corruption is endemic, state officials routinely exaggerate productivity numbers and bribery is rampant. On the surface, the US looks to be at a disadvantage with China, and is in the short term, but I am not so pessimistic. Americans are clever and by and large do the right things, build well, and seek to improve their way of life. Individual chinese certainly have similar ethics, but systemically, China is very, very corrupted and will look incredibly different in 100 years.

Buy American!

Capitalism seems to have turned around and bitten us on the ass, now that we have successfully exported it to so many other countries.
Actually, I am afraid of Chinese goods (maybe they should be called "bads," since so many of them seem to be either toxic, dangerous, or ,at best, just poorly made), and try to avoid them for that reason.

Not really. China will remain a low cost production base compared to the US for the forseeable future. Ceasing to buy Chinese will not result in factories re-opening in the US. The US will simply buy stuff from other low cost producers else where in SEA.

That's the problem. The kinds of things suggested by trade wars and "buy American" are all short term things in which the US is simply at a disadvantage. That will not be turned around any time soon.

What does a century hence have to do with right now?

In order to buy American, you first have to be able to FIND American.

Buy the best and buy it once. Maintain it and repair it. Don't be a whore to your lawn and LCD TV.

My MIL has a Kitchenaid mixer from 30 years ago that still works. Admittedly my FIL has probably had it rebuilt every 5-6 years, but it made all the bread and coffeecake for seven people in the family for about 18 years and still runs strong today.

I try to buy American whenever possible, its not that hard. I just bought paint rollers from Lowes, they have one brand that's American, costs an extra few cents over some of the cheapest Chicom ones.
