Oh yeah I looked at Mechatroniks web site a few years back when I did a project based on a similar concept. I was very impressed with their work but yikes! I thought the Copley W111s were expensive....

Justin, for just $227k you could close on this 1572 sq ft 2b/2br in a great neighborhood in Carmichael.

5400 block of Arden Way, not very far from you, and a great location too.

Nice car, Jay Leno has a smiler project in the works with a 300SEL 6.3 and a new 6.3 AMG V8. I don't think its going to cost anywhere near that to build.

Why do they always cover the motor on high end cars these days?

I guess people assume visible metal is ugly? On some modern cars the engine cover is also the air filter housing so you can't just leave it off.

IMHO Having the engine itself be shiny is better. IE the NA V6 and V8 SHO engine

I suspect pedestrian collision safety laws. The manufacturers could either put a giant hump in the hood of all the cars or dress the top of the engine in plastic... at least that is my guess.

For $400k, I'd ask them to at least use the E55K motor. Why have 360HP when you can have 493.

Are those like 16" Bundts? They look bigger than 15.

That is amazingly cool, but I imagine you could pay to have a W111 coupe restored for under $100k and get a reputable performance shop to do those mods for under $100k as well. Last I checked a W111 coupe isn't massively valuable is it? The verts are worth the real fortunes.

When I turned 16 in 1985, Mom's primary transportation was Dad's old 280SE 3.5 coupe (Dad's primary was a 1971 280SL 5-spd). I drove that thing around a lot when my parents were out of town; used to take it drag racing down Westheimer and scare the crap out of Camaros and Mustangs. I'd pay $200k for a car like that if money wasn't an option (working on it).
