Maintenance of some sort. I know some older planes had tunnels in their wings that would allow crew access to the engines. However I think the scale on this photo is off though.

There should still be engine where he's standing and even with a tunnel there wouldn't be enough room for him to stand.

WVOtoGO will probably know.

That looks like a Boeing 314 Clipper which had Wright Twin Cyclone engines...ie: two row radials that were about 55"-60" in diameter. I'm thinking that the figure shown in the nacelle would have been crouched behind the firewall. Can't imagine what you could do there besides permanently lose your hearing.

Yup. Leave your hearing at the door into the wing.

He's got his finger plugged in the oil leak.

I agree with the scale being off.

With a cruise time of nearly 20 hours, that dude crawled out there mainly to service the engine oil tanks. Those old radials drank quite a bit of it.

I can’t imagine how noisy that had to be. Nor how cold the crawl out the companionway must have been at nearly 20K in the winter months.

Perhaps he's:
A mechanic on the wrong end of a bad prank by his fellow mechanics?
Good Humor man ?
Milk man?
Stowaway?
Saboteur?

Just think about what a little turbulence would do to that whole scene.

I also think that sweet talker dude in the mid pax compartment should go hang with the lone lady and her bong in the deluxe compartment.

You can't see it in the picture above, but the words " Wing Station" appear across the man in a nacelle.
