I wonder if a guy who, I'm going out on a limb here, has demonstrated that sort of rigid defiance might pull get a little too tough with a child now and then. The kid is often not yet as bigoted as the old man at age 10, I'm guessing the kid is innocent and the father beat the hell out him now and then.
