NJ Governor Uses State Helicopter to Attend Son's Ball Game

The Christies’ son Andrew, No. 24, is the Delbarton catcher.

Christie stood in the stands behind first base, the visitors’ side, while the helicopter sat idle.

Delbarton was winning 5-1 around 6 p.m., when Christie left at the end of the fifth inning. Delbarton won the game, 7-2.

Instead of walking the 100 yards to the field, the burly governor and first lady Mary Pat Christie hopped into a black car with tinted windows and rode the rest of the way.

The governor and first lady climbed into a black Ford Crown Victoria and were driven from the top of a hill near the western end zone and were driven down to a gate at the other end of the football field where three Montvale police cruisers were parked.

He doesn't need a twin rotor?

Politicians cannot help themselves.

A clue as to the inordinate power we put in the hands of the few is the extraordinary security measures they require merely to stay alive. This should be a hint to devolve power rather than continually accrue it.

Because anyone who is able to do better won't run. Why would they? Sure, a Governor has more state power but as a CEO, I have less red tape, more money.

Sure. That is the EASY part. Finding something to replace it that won't become this again is the much harder part. It take 2 words to fire an employee. "You're Fired". Now, how long does it take to hire one that won't have their own brand of crap? You want to replace it with something better? Find a way to take the human out of the equation.

Most of this noise is political payback.

CC made a lot of enemies within the Jersey Democratic political ranks while he was US Attorney. He put a lot of crooked pols away.
Now that he's governor, he's hated by state employees, teachers and others who have been sucking on the state tit lo these many years.
His first target was the Passaic Valley Sewage Authority. He took names and kicked ass...from the commissioners to the Exec director (313k salary) and a bunch of other political hack employees.

It's budget time in NJ (July 1) and the entire Assembly is up for re-election along with 1/3 of the Senate in Nov.
Score political points anyway you can. He handed them a field goal, I suppose. No lasting damage though.

All that said, even though it's legal and every governor has done it, it was a dumb move imo...

To answer the question, yes, he was being a good Dad from the standpoint that he took time out of his busy day to see a game. OTOH, it would be much nicer if he did it on his own dime.

But there again, he is a politician so what do you expect? That is about how they all behave. Some more overtly and some more subtly but it is still "One way for them and one way for us".
