$100K "Jetpack" Goes 5000 ft Up @ 60 MPH

Ponder the Applcations Other Than A Bond Film

The pack is 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Martin says it produces 600 pounds of thrust. It carries 5 gallons of fuel and has a range of 31.5 miles at its max speed of 63 mph. The company hopes to commercialize the jetpack, which is classified as an ultralight aircraft by the FAA, within 18 months and provide manned and unmanned versions to customers. The company says the “target price” is $100,000 delivered to your door.

Sure enough, there will be some idiot trying to yak on their cell phone while flying the bloody thing, and end up crashing into someone's house, or having a midair with a jet on final approach to SAT.

Imagine the money that went into developing that monstrosity. Sci-fi fantasies die a hard death.

The next prototype will have a lawn chair strapped to it!

Sounds like a big leafblower when operating....

That's exactly what I thought. When I hear 'jet pack' I'm thinking James Bond, flames or rockets or compressed nitrogen or something. That's just a cool personal hover craft.

Or about 10 seconds of screaming terror and a loud "SPLAT".
