Great story of a father's sacrifice for his son
Even if you're non-religious, this story is awe-inspiring. I've known this family since the 80's. The oldest son, Tom, was a year behind me in high school.
A Father’s Day Lesson About Children, and Life: Jeffrey Goldberg http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-06-17/a-father-s-day-lesson-about-children-and-life-jeffrey-goldberg.html

Wow. Although I'm not a religious man, that story speaks to me on a number of levels. Not the least of which is the power a small boy with Down syndrome wields. Unlike my other kids, Garrett wants to do everything with me. No matter how mundane. Kids with Ds are more like typical kids than not so there are a lot of generalizations, but everything I do with him is the best thing in his world at that time. And while assuming the best in people may not always work in your favor in this day and age, it is no less noble a quality.
I can relate to the willingness to do anything for my kids' health and well being, as the author stated, so I think. All of us say it, thankfully not many of us have to actually face it.

sorry, but foolish, selfish (40+, and still pumping out babies, because you don't use birth control and wont do an amniocentesis?) catholic cultists who believe in witchcraft instead of modern medicine don't get a lot of respect from me. and jeffrey goldberg is an unrepentant zionist, who holds dual citizenship (israel/u.s.) served in the israeli army (which is illegal, but is never prosecuted, because of AIPAC) and was a prison guard who assisted in the illegal and inhumane detention of palestinians gets no pass from me with a smarmy story designed only to pander to christians - people, by the way, who are inferior to his "chosen people" - to support his own crazy cult.
have a nice day.

yes, i can't see anything good in the oppressive cult that drives your existence, promotes irresponsible procreation, and wraps it all up in magic and "beatification". please, light a candle for me. and for jeffrey goldberg, traitor and war criminal. (i notice you are unable, with your obvious intellect, to consider, let alone refute, any of the facts. instead you insult me. which i'm not sure is part of your church's alleged message of peace and love.)

I don't feel a need to refute anything about this author as his views on anything political or otherwise don't in any way whatsoever have any bearing on the story he's reporting about. He's irrelevant to me in this case. I've never even heard of him before. Now, if there's a thread about politics in that area of the world and his views come up, fine. But this thread isn't about that. So no, I won't even bother about refutations. So, just for you, here's the original story as it was reported in the Washington Post to read so you don't have to think about Goldberg's views. If you have a problem with its author, maybe start a different thread about him too. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/09/AR2008090903691.html I apologize for throwing a jab your way earlier. I'm closing this thread. Unfortunate, as it was only supposed to make people feel better, but went horribly off.
