don't joke because they might actually accept....of course, you will have to agree to take on the liabilities.

Saab has been dying for years, but no-one would pull the trigger and put it out of its misery.
GM gave it a shot, but had too much on its plate (GMAC troubles) to pay it any real attention.

X2...I've seen this as nearly inevitable for a while now, especially since GM bought them. Obviously GM has its own problems, but acquiring all sorts of other brands was one thing that put them under. Ford got smart and sold Volvo to lighten the load, Gm should have done the same. Saabs are nice cars but I'm not sure I'd want to own one - do a bit of searching for the airbag issues . The NG900 is one I'd like to own and boost the crap out of...good engines.

Saab has been hanging by their fingernails. Recent cash flow issues with suppliers led to the layoffs. The Chinese orders, when approved, will bring them back to life but after that who knows.

I bought a 2002 9-3 from a friend and have no complaints. With a turbo and 5-speed manual it's a joy to drive.

Just a though which I have nothing to back up with, but.....

I used to work on a lot of cars, and years ago I began to notice a lot of GM parts creeping into SAAB's. Rack and pinion units, suspension parts... lots of stuff you would not notice unless you tore into a lot of cars.

I have wondered for some time if the reason GM bought them was because SAAB owed them so much and just could not pay?

gm purchased 50% of saab way back in '89.

it took them 20 years, but they finally killed it.

i'd still take a 900 turbo. great handling and fast.

Exactly. Saab died the day they were bought by GM.

I had an '88 and an '91 900S. I loved the ergodynamics and the comfortable seats. Safe, agile and quick. Fairly reliable, but no Honda.

Nice. Dad had a '74 99. Pea green. Perfect car to match his pipe and tweed jacket.

Saab was already sucking air when GM took it over. The 900 was essentially a firewall-forward redo of the old 99 and was becoming pretty played out by the end of the Eightie's.

I always liked Saab because of their "unique" styling. They always wanted to go places no one else did (for better or worse)- thats cool. That faded as GM took over, but such is business.

The resale value on Saab's has been dropping and will drop faster now. Maybe its time to look into once of their old convertibles (cheap enough to drive into the ground)
