Chevrolet s10 2.2 air condition compressor question
The subject vehicle is my dad's "yard" truck and the a/c is inopertive. When recovered, vacuumed and charged with the proper amount the compressor pulls in but it does not build pressure? Anyone with Chevrolet a/c system experience? Is not building pressure a failure mode for a compressor? The majority of the ones that I have seen failed were either locked up or the clutch would not pull in. I replaced the dryer and orifice before the work.

I'm assuming you've put a set of gauges on it......
But yes, it is possible for the compressor to engage and "flatline" the gauges. Its pretty rare but i've seen it on some of those particular style gm compressors. Typically you will get a small rise on the high side, and the low will either remain steady or fluctuate (like a vacuum gauge reaqding a bad valve). In the 25yrs I spent in gm service I truly dont think they made a great compressor other than the old a6's. John |

Thanks John and yes I've had gauges hooked up to it (actually a recovery, vacuum and charge machine).
