It just followed me home, honest!

Can I keep it?

Nice guy Chris from up the hill stopped by one day to chat with Darling Wife about his son who was running for mayor. He liked Gustav, mentioned his old benz.

Came back a few weeks later and asked Darling Wife if she wanted his car. We mulled. Went up and looked at it with Chickie and Louis (loosbenz). Realized he was looking to give the car away to a good home.

He bought it from the original owner (a co-worker) when it was 9 years old. Solid, runs well, has some jack point rust and a slightly outta whack back end (trunk lid catches when opening). ~ 300k miles.

So, today Louis and I went up the hill and Chris signed it over. Also handed over a complete set of factory service manuals, spare parts, and lots of smiles. Chris asked if he could have visitation rights

Just gotta decide if Darling Wife and I are gonna keep it, or pass it on to Chickie and Louis......

'78 300SD w/Black tex interior in decent shape. Engine sounds great. Transmission shifts nicely. As said before, it needs attention in a number of areas, but overall not bad.

I see. I read the OP's sig and assumed this was the 4.5. That's why I was asking about the gas engines.

I particularly like the '78 since it's from the same year as me.

Buy one in So Cal.

I am in California.

So I have as much interest in a Mercedes Benz with rust (eveni if it is in the "Usua;" jack points as I would in dating and kissing a 85 year old woman.

If you need another Mercedes Benz that is cheap, old and in excellent unrusted condition, get it in Southern California. Cars like that are all over the place there. Especxially in the wealthy areas like parts of the Los Angeles West side (Beverly Hills, Santa Monica ect) and Certain areas of Orange County (Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Trabuco Canyon, Irvine, Lake Forest, ect)

Ground zero for car culture, the cars are well cared for and have the mechanics, shops and car care support system for them, and no rust because of no salt anslush on the roards ever, and the huge supply of cars like that keeps the prices much cheaper than they would be, anywhere else.).

When checking diesels though, be wary of the Biodiesel conversion cars. A LOT of them got messed up by improper conversions.

Cost you about $1000 to $1300 to ship one to the east coast.

Or fly in, drive home in one.
