The standard iron slant six would be a poor choice because of its weight. The fact that it is slanted is similar to the original engine in the mb.

I seem to remember a story about there being a few aluminum block slant sixes. If that is true it would make a lot more sense.

R series motors special delivery. I think they made them for motor sport.

Probably given that its a fiber glass replica, the weight is not such a problem.
An alloy V8 may be a better choice.

+2 here! I remember trying to replace the points on those engines with the passenger/right side engine mount rubber eaten away by the eternal valve cover leaks on the slant sixes. Lordie! I hated those engines. Dang things wouldn't die though.
