Track Days near DFW, Texas
Anyone on this forum ever go to track days in or near the DFW, Texas area? I would like to start taking the cars out once a month for some legal high speed fun.
Where do you go?

I dunno about cars, but in the motorcycling community there are regular trackdays at two local tracks - Motorsports Ranch in Cresson and Eagle Canyon Raceway in Decatur. Google up their websites and you should be able to find some information on trackdays at each.

Cresson is SW of Ft Worth on 377, Eagles Canyon is 10 miles due west of Sanger on 455. Both are private clubs. Texas Motor Speedway has some events with track days where you can drive your car, put on by Total Driving Experience.

Check out the Total Driving Experience. Put in the search box 'Texas Tour'. This is something they do at the raceway now and then.
There is a track 40 miles west of Tulsa, which is only about 300 miles away, called Hallet Motorspeedway. I know the SCCA races there from time to time. I don't know about individual driving events but you could always contact them to find out. |

I think Dallas PCA used to use Hallet, never been there. Is that the one that is an airfield?

There are NASCAR driving experiences at Texas Speedway;.... this is the first time I hit a calculated 165 on the back stretch.
But somehow I don't think this is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the sources, it looks like Eagle Canyon will be the best choice to start with. $150 for a track day, they have them once a month.
I just wish there was a place I could go to take the AMG to its 155MPH limit. Texas Motor Speedway may be the one for that. I think I need to look into the Texas Standing Mile event as well.

Those cars don't have the suspension for cornering, even on a large track at that speed. The instructors at the school there won't go over 140 with a stock Corvette unless they have roll cages. You might get up to speed and take a curve, and when the suspension unloads you will be slung into the wall. 155 is the sort of thing you do in a straight line.

oh of course, i don't expect to be going THAT fast around corners, 155 would be in a straight line, preferably a runway

There is an airfield near (15 miles) Hallet called Westport, but I think it is a private field. It was envisioned as a housing area where you could land your aircraft and taxi to your house. It is a lake resort place where there are nothing but real homes and not 'lake houses'. The attraction to the place is that it is very pretty but Tulsa is only about 20 miles away so you can work in Tulsa and live on the lake shore.
Some of the homes there have hangers attached just like a garage, but none of these homes are on the lake. There is a town nearby the track called Hallet but it is not much of a town. I have been to pipeline stations with odd names and when I asked who the station was named after I was told there once was a town by that name nearby but it went away long ago. If you look for Hallet on the map a town might be shown there, but any real town is nowhere to be found. |
