Smile N ew Mercedes stablemate for the 560SEC AMG has arrived: '95 E 420 (pic's)

\

New daily driver,

A frien on benzword trolled Craigslist in Sacramento found it for me.vi found it on CL. He knew I was thinking of going to Az tomorrow to pick up a 240D '84 euro manual thanks David! Saved me hundreds of $$$ on a trip to AZ and a long driveback home with this one.

It's a gem. Only 3 owners, 121k original evgrything stock and unmolested, good crfax clean title, owned by emolyee of a w124 MB repair shop specializing in the W124 as his personal car.

All books along with it, tool kit, unipened first aid kit and jack all there, immaculateinterior, inmy favorrite color.

After gettint it re titled, it had bgreezed through California smog by the seller, I clayed it and waxed it and it looks super!

got it day before yesterday and it is way better than the w123 diesels I was thinking of picking upp as a bgeater.

New coolant, brake flush, thermostate, plugs, LOF, new front brakes and rotors, ice cold AC working original Bejer, actually has real leather seats in perfecvt shap, uncracked dash and is the last year of the uncompromised build quality e class, the w124 one.

I have been given a warning triangle but need a clip for one of them, and the ONLY thing wrong detected wrong was a wet camshaft sensor and seepage that is very light from the valve cover gaskets, but no drips on the driveway.

Sensational to find all books and manuals with the car, which was sold new in Albuquerque then brought to CA with its second owner to the Silicon Valley in the SF bay area and then bought by he guy working at the w124 shop up here.
So lifetime CA/NM car no rust ever.
So basilly carefully selcted by him and it is turn keyl

runs out beautiful, looks almost mint now, and is way beter than I thought I would find.

And best of all, the '93-'95 ones had one bad feature, a poitially corret biodegraeale wiring harne, but the mechanic pointed out that he had specifically replacedt with an updated, proper correct wiring harness so a huge bullet could be dodged, the shop mechanic showd me this work; he was proud of it..

This car with the 420 motor runs really really fast, too, it is the ultimate E cls except for the fabled E 500 the $85k Porsche hybrid one. But this car is on that basi patform and it' very very copetent, a good daily driver and ar for all reasonsBut it s looks unrere,nd the 560SEC still looks stunnig, brilliant.

I think with the '11 Outback for the snow, I am about set for lif.
My w126 now is officially semi-retiured.

W124

Very nice car. Also very different from a 240D.

Good for you for being so flexible.

Do you miss the panther cars?

I love the E420's.

When I was shopping for a new car, I was initially looking for a W124 500E/E500.

I got sidetracked into looking at an incredibly clean, low-mileage '94 E420, and the seller refused my crazy, high offer, which was actually higher than KBB High retail blue book.

It's a funny story, but in the ended accidentally buying a W210 E430.

Nice car Jim. Don't get rid of the SEC, that's a beautiful classic car. Also, I hope that it does not have to sleep outside.

Talking "Old School" is now in session

thanks for the kind words everyone.

The stock 15's have been discarded,

Now running on 17" Mercedes Benz ///AMG monoblocks with a marked improvement in handling and road feel but no apparent ride deteriooration .

Now also featuring ipod capability and an Alpine 6 CD toploader magazine in the trunk too. 40% tint to be applied the day after tomorrow.

Couple of nights ago I handed the keys to a mechanic and ex racer friend who is lifetime local to the area and knows all the back roads well. He had never driven an E ckass but these are very intuitive.

We ran about 13 miles on the mountain roads he knows so very well in the Sierra foothills up here,

He took 35 mph curves at 65 and ran the straights up to 125 mph but the car never once broke its stride or lkost its composure. the car was relaxed and capable even at speeds to separate your retinas.

Very definately in at least the lower echelons of true sport sedan capability I think.

Very glad I did not buy a 71 hp 240 diesel. This one really rocks.

I had a E430 and always wondered the difference between the 420 and the 430.

Can I asked you, roughly what you paid or is that considered rude?

Just like to know what the market for them is in Sac. I use to live there.

Great car. Same color as the one I use to own.

$2,995.--

Bought it at the Mercedes Benz independent shop where it was the personal ride of a mechanic that works there.

131k, ice cold AC new wiring harness, books and records, clean carfax and title, no rust or collisions, interior mint, 3 owners, bought in New Mexico new, taken to NorCal in 2000. Put over 1,000 miles on it the 7 days I have had it so far.

Wow!

Although I am pretty mileage conscious I would be tempted by that car at that price. I believe they are capable of over twenty mpg highway are they not?

My E430 could get 23 on the highway if careful.

I wonder how the 420 and the 430 compare.

In my 2001 E430, I am averaging 19 mpg in mixed driving, and can return 25-26 mpg in 100% freeway driving.
