To the original question, I never ask anyone out that I'm not already familiar with. Two, if I'm rejected the first time, I just move on. It's too much work and if you're trying to talk someone into a date, it wasn't meant to be.
Years ago, I learned this lesson the hard way when I traveled far out of town and took a girl to a concert that I had no personal interest in and acted like I was all into it for hours in an attempt to make her think we had something in common. Huge mistake. I was out hundreds of dollars, had a crummy night and was worn out from all the acting. Moral of the story: be yourself, don't think every date is the last and move on from rejection.
