Vestibular Disease in Dogs

If you have a dog older than 10 years old, I suggest looking up Vestibular Disease. It mimmicks a stroke. I woke up Sunday morning and thought my dog was having a stroke, pooped and vomited everywhere. As soon as I seen the first poop in the house, I knew something was wrong because he has no problem waking me at any hour to go out and does not take no for an answer.
Fortunately there is a 24hr. emergency vet in the next town and they new the problem before I even got him out of the car.
I have had quite a few dogs and never seen or heard of this before, maybe I'm the only one who hasn't, I don't know. It seems to be fairly commom with excellent chances of full recovery.
Just thought I'd pass this on because I never heard of it.

There's a lot of info on the internet but what the vet did was give me 3 motion sickness pills for him to take because basicaly the world is spinning before their eyes. There is no known cause or cure but over time it almost always goes away and almost never comes back. It commonly effects dogs around 12-13 years old mine will be 14 this year. Strangely it mostly happens during the months of June to October.
Bear in mind that most of this info I got from the internet. The E/R vet gave me the basic rundown and some tips of what to do to keep him safe. They told me if I didn't see improvement in a couple days to take him to his regular doctor. I started seeing improvement, slowly at first, but now we're in the fourth day and he's probably 85% back to normal.

It sounds so common but I never heard of it before I thought I would pass the info along.

Wierd and scary! Glad to hear your pup is on the mend. Thanks for the info, too. My old retriever is 14 now. Fortunately we've been able to get away with canine aspirin and glucosamine/chondroitin for his arthritis. But this will be some good info to have now that he's getting older.

I wonder if this is what TheDon's dog experienced?
