Earthquakes

Just felt my first earthquake. It was very strange, shook the whole house and some things toppled over but no big deal. Reports of a 5.8 magnitude quake in Colorado today and 5+ magnitude in northern VA which spurred this one.

I was asleep during the CO earthquake and didn't feel it. Lots of FB postings in the NE from people who felt today's.

I was half asleep when it sounded like my roof was coming off! I think this is the first earthquake I've ever experienced. It was certainly the biggest if not the first.
Wow. Nothing was damaged, but boy was it exhilarating.

It felt almost like a tornado approaching, but outside nothing was moving. Very eerie!

I'm kinda bummed, I didn't feel a thing. They're taking about it on the radio (the station is located a couple towns over in Farmington) about how they felt it in the studio and my aunt called to say my uncle's office at Pratt in E. Hartford was evacuated. Maybe the sensation was greater in upper floors and I didn't feel it at ground level?

The FD just screamed by, I'd imagine the DMV didn't want to feel left out of the evacuation.

And ditto BobK's sentiments. Hope our DC area friends are OK!

Rocked things along the South Jersey coastline pretty good!. Lasted about 30 seconds or so. Our 2 story wood frame building shook pretty good.

Is it true that Pat Robertson just tweeted that the earthquake happened near Washington DC as a result of divine retribution for Americans we elected too many Tea Partiers who cared only for the rich and not the poor?

Biggest quake for 100+ years in Virginia. Epicenter about 30 miles from my house.

haha it was only a matter of time before someone tied the earthquake to something political! good one!

if SRJ were still here he would tie it somehow to Warren Buffett!

Rattle data

5.9. In a modern office building here in Germantown, didn't feel like much. Apparently felt a bit different in the hunnert year old balloon-frame farm house that Darling Wife and the zoo are in

Enough of a rattle to send scurrying for cover the cats who were all piteously mewing along behind "mama" since she was carrying the brunch bowls. Several of that troop are capable of ignoring pretty dang much ANYTHING when they're hot on the trail of a food bowl..... so this musta been a big deal in their world!

Biggest quake on record for that seismic area. 5.9 and only 6/10s of a mile deep at Charlottesville. I was on the 20th floor of our building near the Ohio river in Cincinnati. Moved the building pretty good. Did it stop the tube in DC? did it scram the nuke plant north of there?

Towson area 21093 - every county / state employee standing outside as if the world were coming to a end . Their respective dept. heads clamoring to call their superiors and no one can make a decision - so they all go home.

Private industry - does not blink.
