Our red ant hills get pretty extensive below the surface here. There's a local artist who pours molten aluminum down them and then digs them up and sells them for big dollars.

That's sounds cool! Obviously not, but I would have thought the aluminum would cool and start to set before it reached the depths of the hill. I guess if it's hot enough to begin with.

I saw more than enough ant hills in NOLA. Not that big, but always full of the meanest critters ya ever wanted to not deal with. And that was after Katrina.

I was amazed they could get the concrete to fill the voids throughout that complex w/o agitating it. Almost looked like gyp-crete, that's a lightweight concrete like product that I believe is all gypsum, not sure, there might be some concrete in it. It's used for indoor floors, poured over radiant heat tubing, seeks it's own level pretty well.
