Do dealerships keep service history?

I plan to get my 300TE aligned at the dealer (for use of spreader bar)

just curious if its possible for me to request if they have any history of the car while I am there? Is it difficult to get them to cough it up or is it freely available if you OWN the car?

I have had my 300TE since 63k mi back in 2006, but don't have "full" history for roughly first 40k miles.

Can they pull it using VIN?

I figure since I am paying the premium for the alignment, I better get some extra bonus

My dealership keeps service records in their computers until its been more than 5 years since they've seen the car.

When I asked on the 82 300TD wagon I had, I was greeted with over $20,000 in service records, which they printed off for me. Another car that was bought new at the same dealer had nothing because they had not serviced it fairly recently.

Your dealer may vary.

when i went to check service records of my 96 bmw 740il i checked at the dealer that sold it new and they would not release them to me as i was not the person that owned it new.i told them they could cut off the name section so i wouldn't know where they lived etc but they still wouldn't do it.

Interesting....

I guess its worth a shot?

I know this car hasn't been to the dealer in probably over 10 years.

The word came down from MBUSA that dealerships were not to share their service records a few years back.

My MB dealership doesn't seem to have an issue sharing past service history with me. Especially for service later facilitated via a recall campaign...

Depends on the Service Manager

Technically,Montvale can't tell them whom may view out of date service records.
Lots of Stealers play the "Privacy" game. They figure if you can't figure out when last it was serviced they can "Sell" you the service Now.
A Service Advisor (Unless he/she's cohabiting with one of your family) will never
voluntarily give you previous records.(They see it as money out of their pocket)

Approach the Service Director (Or the Franchisee) and ask.

For the US, exactly what I found.
The gray market 380SL I bought was originally owned in Austria, I wrote the dealer and got the .pdf file of service records for 1983-6
