Yikes! 12 Billion in cash spread around Iraq and Afganistan.

Where is the outrage on the political right about this?

The solyndra loan to a company hoping to provide a reasonable alternative to petroleum. The petroleum companies enjoy some pretty sweet handouts courtesy of our government, I understand and they are making billions.

I am also a lot more upset about all the sweet, no competitive bids, cost plus contracts that went to Haliburton in the middle east wars. (Cheney's company).

I always was amazed at the mainstream medias reporting of the Halliburton issues. Dick Cheney left Halliburton on unfriendly terms before all these contracts ended up at Halliburtons steps. Also Halliburton was the only company in a position to deliver on most of the various contracts.

The mainstream media framed it up to get even a savvy guy like you, Tom, to believe it.

From what I've seen, the only outrage about the Solyndra issue is COMING from what you call the right.

I guess you are right. No biggie. Even when you consider the warning signs it isn't too bad an idea. Maybe, this is a sign that they can't even do their own jobs and should stick to getting their job done instead of meddling where they have no business or a clue about what is going on.

Only one difference in that. Petroleum companies are generating revenue and employing people. Solyndra, well.......

By "Cheney's company", are we assuming he was actively running that company WHILE BEING THE VP or are you saying that by having any association with it in the past, he is automatically suspect?

What happened again? He got booted out or "asked to seek other opportunities"? I heard something about it but not sure. Got a link?

This was a quick search and is wide in its scope, but I'm sure more specifics on his departure could be found with minimal googling:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2011/jun/08/dick-cheney-halliburton-supreme-court

Being a Texan, I DO remember the fiasco about Halliburton buying Dresser which turned out badly. Who else to blame it on but the CEO. Although he received a separation package, he was not seen in good light by those left at Halliburton.

I think its too early to tell if this is going to be a sticking point. Obviously the GOP is gonna take it and run with it as far and wide as they can considering the upcoming election. I'll wait it out a bit and see

Actually BOTH parties should be "running with it." It would seem that you could make plenty of hay out of ONE HALF BILLION DOLLARS of taxpayers money put down a rathole with NOTHING to show for it.

I don't think there's any politician in DC REGARDLESS of political party that's worth a bucket of warm spit.

It's bad enough that Cheney lacks morals and integrity, what really tops it off is his incompetence. Granted, he did not screw up Powell's and Schwarzkopf's conduct of the first Gulf War. He has also succeeded at accumulating wealth and power.

Has he ever succeeded at anything else?

Okay that's fair. The argument that he was on the take with Halliburton is under question, so we now move to proclaim him incompetent. That's a common tactic. When the argument falls apart then just start the name calling. Sort of like Maxine Waters or Jimmy Hoffa Jr. and the Tea Party.

I didn't mean for my comment to have anything to do with why Haliburton got those contracts. I am not aware of anything Cheney has done that was inappropriate in that regard. My comment was intended more as a random sort of rant. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the explanation Honus. I apologize if I responded in a knee jerk.

In short he was as my old boss used to say "seeking other opportunities outside the company", aka fired. IF what you said is true, why does everyone think that Cheney would bother to help his old company out unless he had to? What is his motive? I thought that you need means, motive and opportunity? What is his motive? To atone for his mistakes or "different" orders that he gave?

Here is the problem. A half bill here, a quarter bill there and pretty soon we have a huge amount of money. All good reasons to say that the govt cannot even manage it's responsibilities and we should NOT be heaping more on it. I have never entertained the notion of promoting an incompetent employee and giving him more money and responsibilities.

Wrong. They are worth a lot to themselves. People tend to believe that when a politician says "I care" or "I'll help you" they are sincere.

Very well put!
