Made something...

Out of LEGOs. I was really bored today between classes, and instead of doing what I should be doing (read: talking to sorority girls), I whipped out my laptop in the dining hall and built a Gen II W126 in Lego Digital Designer.

It's a pretty cool program if you are in to LEGOs, as I still am at 20 ;) Also free.

So it's black with grey cladding, and a tan interior.

As equipped, it is a 560SEL with 4 place seating. No sunroof, so it has to be a Euro. It is possible to switch out the lower cladding for a Gen I set, also possible is the addition of an AMG Aero kit.

All the doors open, as well as the hood and boot. The seats are also individually adjustable. Detailed engine, with Alternator and A/C compressor attached. I could fit more stuff in the engine compartment, but my classes were going to start, and my old maid was nagging me for embarrassing her .

Anyways, attached are the pics!

Lego does this sweet thing where whatever you build in the digital designer, you can order all the parts through them.

However... It is 550 pieces, and nearly a foot long.

That translates to their calculation of... $110 bucks.:eek:

I may scrounge together a cobbled version until I can afford to blow the cash on this ;)

There's always those Duplo knockoffs

you can buy legos in bulk on ebay. But for the size of the model $110 for all of the legos you need is a decent price.

I cleaned out my closet this summer (for frame of reference, imagine the trash compactor in Star Wars Ep IV) and found old catalogs from like, 1998.

back then, for $70 I could get more pieces than you can now for $110... Looking at new sets when I sneak peek at Wal*Mart, the prices seem outrageous.

(Then again, in 1998 I didn't have to pay for them :D;) )

I paid $300 a set for the nice new big town buildings lego released last year. Built them and then they sat.. It was fun but waste of money.

Those modular ones? They are pretty sweet, especially when you look at the engineering behind em. I never got into Lego City stuff mostly because my younger brother and I were always at 'war', so standing structures often didn't make it through a few hours of operation...

I kind of want the new power Unimog they have...

Not to hijack this thread, but what you describe could be seen as the difference between a political liberal and a conservative.
OTOH, your design work is impressive. I am surprised to see its "only" 550 pieces.

If I were bored enough, I definitely could have gone bigger and more detailed, but I opted to keep it in a semi wallet-friendly scale. Plus the wheels LEGO makes aren't scaling friendly...

Also intrigued as to know what my closet says about me politically:D
