Idiot Freed Hikers from Iran

Remember those morons who were in prison in Iran for 2 years.

Well after thousands of hours of effort and millions of dollars they were freed.

The first thing the guy said publicly was , "Two years in prison is too long and we sincerely hope for the freedom of other political prisoners and other unjustly imprisoned people in America and Iran."

What a dufus.

James Kirchick: What American 'Political Prisoners'? - WSJ.com

PS - The guy got his degree from Berkeley in Peace & Conflict Studies. What a complete waste of time, effort and resources. Let's see if we can arrange a hiking tour for him in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

For what purpose? You want to see physical harm come to him? I admire your ability to switch your Christian beliefs on and off with such facility.

That Christian didn't vote for Obama, so a free pass was issued...

It all depends on how you read the sentence. It doesn't necessarily say that there are political prisoners in the USA.

I'm not grasping the "dufus" part.

He's fairly certain that they were close to the Iran border but cannot be sure if they crossed it. Apparently, nobody without GPS coordinates can be sure where they are in such a region.

I suppose you could label him a dufus for hiking in the general vicinity of the border, but that would be a bit of a stretch considering you already know the outcome.

I would consider their behavior a bit dangerous because they are unarmed in an area without any police protection in any form.

You go hiking in some bad area and NOT even own a GPS. Really? No, it isn't just stupid, it is inconsiderate and rude. You dragged people into it for your personal jollies. If you want to jump out of a plane with little to no training, that is dangerous. You will inconvenience someone who has to scrape off your splat on the ground. If you can afford the air fare there, don't tell me you cannot afford a simple hand held GPS that can keep your ass on WAY the hell onto your side of the border. Even then, why?

The question that begs an answer is whether they could foresee the consequences of crossing the border in error?

If they could be as visionary as yourself, then you would have an absolute right to call them stupid.

Hindsight is always 20-20.

Well, lets see what we have here. I'm fair skinned and American (not arabic looking). Iran doesn't like Americans. I wonder what would happen if I strayed into their border by mistake.

I didn't know exactly what would happen to them either but I have a good enough guess at what might happen to make me leery of going anywhere like that without knowing EXACTLY where I am at that I might give it a wide berth.

I am not sure how much of a visionary you have to be to know that but I doubt it takes that much to beware of such areas. So lets turn the question to YOU. A week before their capture, knowing what they did to the US Embassy, would YOU be doing the same hike and why?

Asking me the question is a bit unfair because I, like you, am extremely analytical. I'm also very cautious and don't have any desire to put myself in any situation where the outcome is not in my control. So, I probably wouldn't be going to Iraq, Iran, any country in the mideast or the far east, or Africa, or Asia for that matter. The security is not sufficient, IMHO.

The average person won't perform such an analysis and evaluate the risk. If that makes them a moron............well, you already know my opinion on that subject.

However, I do note that many, many Americans decide to put themselves in harm's way in various African and far eastern countries without so much as a wisp of concern. 99.99% of them return alive. If they go with the odds, do we still consider them morons?
