California Becomes 5th State to Ban "Open Carry" Firearms

The Brady Campaign, which sponsored the legislation, said California joins Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas as the only states to ban the open carry of handguns. It said 33 states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Louisiana and Colorado, do no prohibit open carry. Twelve states, including South Carolina, Tennessee, Minnesota and Massachusetts require permits for open carry.

Governor Brown Signs Law

California also restricted access to tanning facilities to minors.

Not really a change. It's my understanding that open carry has been de facto banned for many years. There are quite a few behaviors that are perfectly legal in my locality that would get you thrown in prison in California.

Of course we can all rest easy knowing that the gang bangers respect and obey ALL of the gun laws.

Open carry is not permitted in Colorado. At least that's what I was told when I took the course to get a permit.

It's legal in most of Nevada (not sure about Clark County), but it's generally inadvisable to do so in town. It scares the Californians.

It's legal here. You used to need a permit for concealed carry, but not really any more, although you can still get one. Concealed has been redefined in the law so that wearing one under your coat isn't concealed. Neither is having one under your car seat, or buried in your waistband so nobody can see it. Go figure....I never understood concealed carry anyhow. If I'm going to carry a gun I want the world to know it. Somebody who's intent on screwing with you probably isn't going to wonder first whether you might have a gun or not, but might decide if they see it first that you're not worth the trouble.

CA is pretty nuts, its been pretty much banned in most areas for a long time. This just makes it official.

Now that the NRA has a nice head of steam I want to see them try to repeal the 1986 machine gun ban. Its not right that only rich people can afford full auto!

The NRA leadership seems to be just as crazy as the Golden State.

The President Is Taking Away Your Guns By Not Taking Away Your Guns

Oh yes, concedes Mr LaPierre, Mr Obama says he supports the second amendment. He hasn't actually done anything—yet—to restrict the right to bear arms. But this is just "lip service", "a pure political calculation" and a "conspiracy". Indeed, "It's a big fat stinking lie just like all the other lies that come out of this corrupt administration." Now that he has appointed two anti-gun Supreme Court justices (Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan) who "lied" to the Senate to get confirmation, the president will use a second term to "end the second amendment as we know it".

+1 on the 1986 ruling. Only problem is that it takes the BATF an average of three months to process an application currently. If they reverse the '86 ruling it will probably take three plus years to process the application.

Should shut down the BATF anyway. They have a 1.26 billion annual budget. Who the hell is running cigarettes and liquor? The local, state, and other federal organizations can pick up the slack.

Yeah but they are crazy in a lovable way which protects my rights. So I don't mind, plus I'm a card carrying member.
