Do you have to own a Benz to participate here?

I still participate on a Crown Vic (and related) forum, even though I haven't owned one of those cars since 2006. I like political climate over there.

tbomachines 10-23-2011 04:36 PM

Half of OD no longer has an MB! In the very least we're a group of car guys with a common interest.

SwampYankee 10-23-2011 04:48 PM

Yes, now go away. ;) :D

Botnst 10-23-2011 05:00 PM

I stood next to a Benz one time.

Once a Benz man always a Benz man !!!
Your part of the furniture in here Clk !! :D

engatwork 10-23-2011 07:57 PM

We'd be in trouble if we passed a rule that the only way to participate in OD is to actually own a Benz:). I am a member on a Ferrari forum. Not because I own one but because I work on one from time to time:). I do enjoy the post repair test drive.

It looks like 5 people think otherwise. :D

Hatterasguy 10-23-2011 09:17 PM

I sold mine for a good vehicle, now instead of working on it I have time to post about not owning it.:D

amosfella 10-23-2011 09:27 PM

Well, looking at buying one is probably good enough... lol At least for me... But others might insist that you buy a car first.... :P
But I look forward to seeing you continue posting...

MTI 10-24-2011 10:54 AM

It's a small group of members here that ask that question in threads.

Air&Road 10-24-2011 10:56 AM

I suppose not, since there appear to be plenty of folks in OD who never mention anything about their cars nor post in one of the car related categories in this forum.

HuskyMan 10-24-2011 11:13 AM

So far 17 say no, 8 say yes. Does that mean the non-owners outnumber benz owners two to one? If that is the case, then the forum may have taken on a "free for all" attitude, come one , come all, our non-exclusive forum lets anyone join!

MTI 10-24-2011 11:18 AM

The multiple MB owners can sponsor those that don't.

Air&Road 10-24-2011 11:25 AM

No the poll question did not ask if you own an MB. It asked if you HAVE to own an MB to post. Quite a difference in the framing of the two questions.

PaulC 10-24-2011 11:27 AM

Let's assume that the answer is that one must own an MB to post here. How would a member prove ownership?

I'm not sponsoring anyone except Tri Star owners; those who want to travel first class.

The Big German Shepherd rules the road, the Tri-star eats rice rockets and domestic Chihuahuas for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Now, time to fire up my BRABUS V12 and move into the passing lane..... AMF!!!!!!

Correct, but it seems reasonable to think that those who voted no most likely do not own a benz else they would find themselves on the outside looking in.

iwrock 10-24-2011 11:38 AM

Yes, you do.

But I have enough MBs to "temporarily" cover you.

Ehhh, I dont know.

HuskyMan 10-24-2011 11:42 AM

I'd rather spend three hours working on a benz versus one hour under the hood of a domestic. As a matter of fact, I don't think I could turn a wrench on a domestic nowadays. too many bad memories.

Honor system, of course.

The Swede 10-24-2011 01:07 PM

V12, been there - done that. What a pile.

BRABUS V12 is engineered from the ground up and produced by BRABUS. A BRABUS V12 is a far different animal than a Mercedes Benz V12. Sorta like trying to compare apples to oranges. not the same.

Due to all the maintenance headaches, I wouldn't touch a Mercedes V12 with a three hundred foot pole; on the other hand, a BRABUS V12 can park in my drive way any day although I'm not sure I could handle the power of the car safely. It is probably best to stick with the cars I have.

Are those Brabus-specific parts less expensive and easier to acquire than a comparable MB part?

tbomachines 10-24-2011 01:32 PM

technically I own the two MBs in my signature but I plan to sell both of them relatively soon. Once I do, I would be considered "out" or "disqualified" from the forum despite having accumulated valuable technical information that can help others, along with the 2000+ posts I've had in the last couple years. Not to mention, OD being open is a magnet to search engine traffic. Its a silly question...and thus I voted "no" which does NOT indicate that I don't own a MB as some have blindly assumed.

The Clk Man 10-24-2011 01:38 PM

I've already have a start on another Benz. Lets see..... I have a hood ornament for a clk 320 and a bad brake switch and an old Star Tac phone. So I guess I'm still a Benz owner.:D

V12 Braubus can't be any better. Not worth imho.

Palangi 10-24-2011 05:21 PM

It owns you ...... :D

Well if your like a typical Brabus buyer and have a high 7 or 8 figure income than you don't care. Nothing an Amex black card can't handle!:D

You have owned at least one of the cars that goes on forever or at least for a million miles and gets 50 miles to the gallon with no issues. So the reality is you have suffered enough to belong.

Or should that be rephrased . To the amount of work done on the car means it at least feels like its already gone a million miles. Greater than a fifty mile fuel milage is also claimed. The problem is you have to be transported on flatbed trucks to get it.

Some poor taxi driver somewhere actually got to several million miles. It was a nice gesture that mercedes gave him a new car. Financially he was in no shape to buy another one after keeping the repairs up.
