Everybody OK after the NorEaster in the East?
New York caught some luck, no real accumulation just lots of surface glare ice (still some this AM). But CT and NJ got hammered.
Lots of folks without power. If you know of any seniors or shut ins, be a good person and drive by and check on them. I just did a quick survey of my neighbors and did some shopping for those that should not be out today. It is also going tio be a cold night tonight with lots of refreezing of standing water so if you can help someone out please do so. Just a thought... |
My son had two concerts scheduled near NYC, last night and today. No electricity in the area so both concerts got cancelled. He still gets paid.

Looks like my place down here is in an unusually heavy snow area on this one. We got about 7 inches but most of it is melted already. A quick drive anywhere from my town and there is almost nothing, reports around here are only 1-2 inches (there was more than that by 1 pm yesterday here!). My parents in ct said they got about a foot and they lost power which is very unusual since they are close to a fire station. Also they lost a couple trees and a large oak tree will probably have to come down since it lost so many limbs. The area got hit hard.

Thankfully Michigan has avoided any white material so far.....we had some slushy hail for about 15 minutes on Friday afternoon. But thats all so far....

Power went out around 2pm yesterday; it's still out. Luv my generator. I was lucky to find a gas station last night that had power.
I had a close call with a very large branch falling from a Maple, landed about 2 feet behind me. |
We were in the NW hills which got pounded hard. Lots of tree limbs down from the weight of the snow on the branches and the leaves which still hadn't fallen. Power is out everywhere and expected to stay that way for days.
Saw one fall right in front of my GFs house and watched in amazement as two pickup trucks drove straight into the branch at full force and just kept going. They were driving on the wrong side of the road so i'm guessing that they were drunk. (Its quite possibly the single dumbest thing that I have ever seen. |
I had to drive a friend home to NJ from the city, since all trains on her line were cancelled. Not a pretty sight -- some areas looked like Paul Bunyan had decided to play with a giant hedge trimmer after consuming a barrel of whiskey.

I hope we experience the same weather pattern as last year. It snows south of us along the eastern seaboard and leaves us alone in nova scotia the majority of times.
We stayed out at the beach this weekend and the waves and wind were both very heavy. The wife even opened the screen/storm door against the wind and got a real trip out of the event. I was guilty of the same thing some years ago and got to re anchor that door. It was also blowing so hard the newer steel outside doors seals where letting air noise happen around them. Precipitation was all rain as well. There is maybe half an inch of snow on the lawn this early morning . The wind has abated.. |
I'm near the shore in CT and we have 2 familes staying with us.
After seeing how the northern part of the state got hammered yesterday we called and invited them for the duration. The folks from Torrington jumper right on it- they had already had a night of no heat. The other family from Ellington at first said thanks, no thanks and then after a night with no heat reconsidered and arrived a few hours ago. MB related: I did manage to get the 2.6 into a large parking lot for a drift session |
No power is one thing. No heat really something else.

I really wish it had been as it would have been VERY handy. Need to get a new shifter handle in and get this combo switch sorted first. We'll see about a hardtop... |

Been out since saturday afternoon. Generator keeping fridge freezer and a few lights on. Coal insert in the fireplace cooking away. Using the gas grill and a coleman camp stove for cooking. Over all better than some worse than others. I am more determined now to get the generator either hard wired or investing in a whole house unit. But before that I have to upgrade the electric service in the house its early 50's vintage.
