New toy!
I just bought an example of the "right arm of the free world".
Can't wait to get up to the club to shoot it. I think I will drag it behind my truck for 3 miles after painting it green to give it that Rhodesian camo look. The Fal is one of those rifles the more you beat on it, the better it is. Unlike sissy guns like the AR. I plan on wailing on mine without mercy like I have been doing to my 10/22 and Sig rifle. I have over 6k rounds through my Sig without an issue. When I go to the club to break my Fal in tomorrow I think I'll put a few mags threw it than throw it in the mud, proper break in is important! I don't want it getting comfortable, and thinking its one of my pretty rifles. All I need is a Scar an FNC to round out my FN collection. They had a Scar 17 which I would have bought if it wasn't already sold. Oh well I can wait.

Nice. I just got a very nice Colt 1917 DA 45 ACP U.S. Gov't stamped. Guy owed me half a grand and gave it to me. I'm going to shoot it tomorrow.

Very cool, anything that vintage Colt was made in Hartford and is a very nice piece. That's when things made in this country were pretty good.

Brings back some memories that. We used those in SA (called them the R1) before the were replaced by the Galil which was called the (R4). The idea that they can be beat up and still work good is something of a myth. SA switched to the Galil because of the obvious superiority of the AK47 to the FAL in bush war conditions. Similar to the AK compared with the M16 in Nam.
I enjoyed shooting the FAL on the range much more than the Galil though. Certainly a better target gun. Not as good in a firefight. (not that I was ever in a firefight mind you, but I know folks who were and am merely relaying what they told me). - Peter.

I had a chance to pick up one for a real good price many years ago. Had the full kit. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it. Heavy thing.

The FAL is a great battle rifle and I've enjoyed playing with them over the years (would love to have 1!). Also toyed with some hk-91's, gallil, etc....
I'm sure you will enjoy it as I have......... but my tastes have changed towards the .556 "sissy" platform..... |

I'm going to shoot it Thursday, the club is deserted on holiday's so me and my friends can kind of let lose and no one will bother us.
I really like the Fal's ergo's. Very thin grip, everything is familiar to me coming from the FN49. Even going a step further to the Scar isn't a big jump if you know AR's. IMHO the 5.56 is a very nice round as well, calling it a "sissy" round is an insult.

Horrible on full auto, plus it has the para stock with the messed up recoil system as a result.
Mike when you want to go shooting, I can drag out some neat toys.

Waiting on the new shifter and tailgate to come in, interior is almost all cleaned up, getting a hard-top on Saturday, probably going to swap in the audio system from the 300SEL sometime in the spring and I get feeling that I can make it's glovebox lid fit as well Yep, i'd say it's coming along

How much do those rifles run if you don't mind me asking? And they're chambered for .308?

Yes, it's a .308. Mine ran me $500 about 20 years ago.
