Advent Conspiracy

Tired of the over-commercialization of Christmas? me too.

Here is a group that wants to challenge us ( mostly Christians, but I suppose anyone can be included) along 4 themes:
worship fully,
spend less
give more
love all.

Since Christmas originated as a pagan holiday, and in no way commemorates the actual birthday of Jesus, I see this as a healthy thing.

I don't blame the merchants for trying to sell as much of their product as possible--it is, after all, their job in a capitalistic economy. But just because they are screaming " Buy, Buy, Buy" does not mean that we must participate in that part of the season.
Even anti-Christians could ( if they chose) agree with the "Spend Less, Give More, Love All."

We'd probably all be better off for the effort.

You say that as if they don't already. Much of the world does not go out and purchase a felled tree, drag it into a dwelling to be lavished with purchased ornamentation and fluff; nor do they spend days on end inhabiting a shopping mall. In fact, what an interesting scene it would be if the churches were full and the malls were empty.

I don't get it. I had the misfortune of going to WalMart yesterday to buy Rotella and ammo. The place was jammed with people who were NOT buying necessaries. Big ticket items in every cart. Lots of toys and other crap. These don't look like the well heeled, and our local unemployment rate is sky high. Food banks and missions are crying for food. Credit cards have limits and this has been going on for 3 years or more. What are these people spending?

$12 vs $20/gallon everywhere else is just common sense. Ever since Orly took over every auto parts store in the area except NAPA they've been jacking prices like crazy. You would have to be an idiot to pay $20/gal for conventional Rotella, $32 for synthetic or $40! for a 5qt bottle of M1 just so you don't have to walk into a Walmart.

I have not shopped at walmart/Sam's in years because I disagree with their business practices. I told my wife last night that I will not shop at Best Buy or Target anymore either because of them.opening up at 11p or 12m for black Fri.

I have been in retail and the travel industry for my entire working life. The commercialism of it is disgusting IMO. The holiday spirit has been sucked out of me a long time ago. We need to get back to the basis of compassion and just enjoying family with it all the other BS.

Can't stand christmas; worst time of the year.

And talking about Walmart is even more depressing.

An evergreen tree sacrificed on the winter solstice is a Druidic worship. Exchanging gifts is a recent innovation to Christianity (and Hanukah elevation to importance is a Jewish reaction to the Christian observance of a Druidic solstice sacrifice). And finally, secular expunging of Christian sublimation of a Druidic ritual incorporates economic sacrifice to celebrate an unknown event for no good reason.

Merry Christmas.

Day after X'mas, I

1. Worship the porcelain god for a long time some years
2. I spend less by not buying others presents or do a "Secret Santa"
3. I do give more.
4. Love all. Well, as long as they are attractive females, sure. See #3
