Wool rug question

I've got quite a few big, heavy wool rugs, oval in shape, that were used here in the house for years prior to us moving in. The wife has taken them all up and I'm not sure what to do with them. Like I said they are big and heavy and I'm sure would look nice with a good cleaning. I've considered ebaying them. What do ya'll think. I would hate to see what it would cost to go out and purchase some like them today. Oh yea they are so old that they were probably made in the US.

Do you think there is someone locally who's having a tough time that could use them? If there were someone living in a house on a slab foundation with no carpet, it sounds like it could add some comfort to their Christmas.

My wife and I try to help people with such gifts, especially at Christmas time. If they are items that are still in reasonable and presentable shape, they are usually greatly appreciated.

Good luck with it.

Are they the ones that look like they were made in a spiral?

Old wool rugs are collectable,, My parents were stationed in Germany in the 60's and picked up 2 old wool rugs,, seems they are very in vogue now,, It best to get a professional to clean them,,or get an opinion I had 2 to give me estimates but they would have to send them out ,,

You might find that having them cleaned will cost as much as they would sell for.

I have purchased such rugs at Goodwill for around $80 if that is of any help as to their value.

You might run an ad on Craigslist. If there is a homeless shelter in your area they could also put them to good use.

Looks like you found a good use for that one. Covering your oil stain.

I think that style is called braided. I don't know if there's a market, but since CLK wants them and he's a collectibles guy, they've got to be worth something, right?

If they're a quality wool in good condition and not unravelling, maybe worth selling; but as mentioned above, getting them to a sellable condition may be pricier than the value. Factor in your time and hassle factor. Check your local Craigslist or eBay and see if others are selling them and what for.

You can buy similar new, pretty cheap. Maybe not wool, maybe not as dense.

Yes, they're called Braided Rugs. My Mom had one over the carpet for decorative purposes back ini the seventies.
