Woodrow Wilson had a PhD. Ran for re-election on the platform of "He kept us out of war" then got us into WWI. We had no dog in that fight until Wilson stopped being neutral and began favoring Britain.

Then we have the clowns who had a JD and got into the presidency. Recently we have Nixon, Clinton and Obama. Crook, narcissist, and whiner.
