Bought a rare W201 1987 190d TURBO today :)

Had to buy it because I know they're rare. It's in a pretty tattered state but it is what it is............

Already trying on some new shoes

Closer look at the new shoes and that rare vented turbo fender....

Uh oh.....................

This damage and the interior are pretty tattered

One year of sales in the US and lower US sales numbers than the 2.3-16, makes it one of the "rarest" W201 models.

Was sitting a while but a check of fluids, a good jump and it drove 30 miles to the house. Throttle wants to stick a little about half throttle. Won't shut off with the key ~ likely a vacuum issue. Needs struts, some door panels, has a cracked windshield, exhaust leak[s], horrible repaint, dash cracks, stinky and dirty but for $500 bucks, come on..........

Congrats on the find!

You didn't post pics of the interior, so I can't access "fixability"...but it does appear worth resurrecting.

I hope that "rare" doesn't equate to "unobtainable parts". It does appear that there are shared pieces among the other platforms of that model year, so you might be okay.

The 87 W201 chassis parts are virtually interchangeable and also share components with the W124 and W202 chassis as well. As a last resort, since the W201 qualifies for "Classic" status, the MB Classic Center can assist with parts if necessary.

Disassemble all the joints under the hood and clean/lube them and that will in all likelyhood fix this issue.

I would give this car an ebay rating of "cream puff."

Hows the interior and drivetrain?

G-Benz ~ MTI is right ~ other than the 2.5 turbo motor and that vented passenger fender it's the same as any other 190/W201.

MTI ~ Yeah, I meant "rare" in the W201 world but it's not the Hope diamond. LOL!

engatwork ~ my exact plans. Thanks!

Ara T. ~ I've heard the horror stories of dishonest eBay sellers and I get your point. The interior is burgundy and WELL used/abused. The door panels are the worst. I swear these diesels door panels always look 10X as bad a gassers like they shrink from the diesel fumes. The drivetrain ~ it runs and drives and thats all I've got to say about that

I'm going to give it a little TLC and go from there.

A friend of mine on LI has one he bought new. Still in showroom condition and has been virtually trouble free.

After a few hours scrubbing [and I mean scrubbing] and the rear wheel on [I've got to get some short lug bolts], here's a new photo.........

This clean up is FAR from over to even remotely look good.

I don't think that parts will be a problem. The same engine was in some of the 124 cars and of course the rest of the car is just a 201 when it comes to parts.
