That perspective seems kind of harsh without knowing all the facts.

“Sometimes people will come in a Mercedes,” said Gina Davio, 41, program director of social services at Fisherman’s Mark, a non-profit social-services center in Lambertville, a city of 3,900 on the Delaware River. “Sometimes they come in nothing but Ralph Lauren, but you never know: That may be all they have left.”
"A Mercedes" could mean anything from a beater W201 to a new S class.

It's pretty hard to judge what is going on there. If I was out of work long enough I'd be going in for assistance, and I'd be one of those "in a Mercedes".

And if you already own stuff, what are you supposed to do? Just get rid of it so that people on a MERCEDES forum won't be judgmental? Yeah, when you had money maybe you bought a nice car and had designer labels on your clothes, so what? If you lost your job and got foreclosed in one of the rackets you're still out of work and needy, aren't you?

It seems rather inappropriate and reckless to extrapolate that they are getting assistance and buying designer labels.

Sure, there are people stroking the system, there always have been. But to simply assume they are because they showed up with a Polo shirt and a Mercedes is truly non sequitur.

I am sure there are lots of people on CORPORATE welfare, that drive those new S-klasse "Beverly Hills Volkswagens".

We REALLY need to begin to REALLY tax the hell out of the poor.

craigslist has a section for cars and clothes for sale.

Dave Ramsey would say sell all your stuff and leave your pride at the door.

I knew a guy once who was so broke he was living in a 16 ft trailer and walked everywhere he went. He had terrible heart problems and at the age of 67 just could not do any type of work but play the organ at his church.

He drew a bit of Social Security. He had once been a Pro Baseball player who had blown through his money as fast as he got it so he really had nothing but the clothes on his back.

Then one day a fellow was driving through town in a rusted out 4-speed 240D (a 123) and it quit on him. He left it by the side of the road and stuck out his thumb and was never seen again. The cops towed it to a small Garage where the owner got it running again and the Cops auctioned it off for the repair charges. The people at the guy's Church put in the high bid and gave it to him.

So here was a guy with very little money, who wore clothes that were fished out of trash heaps (really) who drove a Mercedes. I did a lot of the repair and maintaining on it and he was able to learn pretty quickly how to do that himself.

He died at age 73 due to heart failure and left the car to another old guy at the nursing home he had finally moved into after his trailer burned up.

So, yes.... It happens.

Yep. But you can't sell all your clothes and your car, because you still need to drive and wear clothes. And anything else you buy, even at thrift stores, is going to cost you more than you get on cl for your stuff.

It's tough to judge another man unless you've walked in his shoes. (Apparently you seem to take that literally since you want him unshod.) And I hope you never find yourself near the end of your rope, but if you do, I hope you'll find someone who is, perhaps, a little more open and compassionate than how you are coming across here.

Another tired old story that makes the rounds every election year. "Yawn", propaganda in an election year.

Get mad, go buy more cheap crap made in china and wrap it in red, shiny paper. Feel better. Vote the thief that makes you feel good about getting stolen from and lied to.

Post pictures of this fictitious Welfare Cadillac Mom with Six Kids. Naked, if ya got 'em. Ew, better watch what I ask for.

I am sorry I came across that way. That was not my intention.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts about the present state of our moronic two-party system, which at this point seems to do little more than ensure that we'll get more of the same.

Thanks for a good laugh, Twitch.

Most of us can be just one hospital trip away from needing food stamps.
