Just saw this on another site. It's a nail in saab's coffin. Since the late 1990s they just haven't been competitive at all. I hope this drives used prices down a lot, I'd really like a ng900 turbo for rallyx or autox. They are quick cars (and not too bad either actually)

My sister had a Saab 99. That car was a blast to drive.

I heard on the news that the assembly lines stopped moving last Spring because Saab couldn't pay their suppliers!

Supposedly, they are also behind on their payroll obligations...

Too bad. They made some interesting cars before GM came along a normalized them. Dad had Saab 99 and a 9000. I had an 88 and a 91 900S.

Another one bites the dust... Too bad since they always made some really weird cars until GM bought them.

Daewoo

I had a co worker that bought a Daewoo Leganza and less than 6 months later Daewoo went under and he had the same problem.

GM bought the remains of Daewoo and promised they would "honor" Daewoo warranties and parts supply.

But...

When he got into a fender bender GM said they did not have the parts available to fix it and only some of the body parts were available on the used market. The body style was exclusive to North America so the aftermarket parts available overseas wouldn't work. The alternative was to buy a used Leganza and transfer the unavailable parts and then sell the carcas to the crusher.

His insurance company listed it as totaled but he got much less than than he owed the bank because the KBB aand used market value had dropped like a stone.

Glad I don't own a SAAB.

They are gone for good now. The China deal fell through because GM would not let go of some technical stuff.

But the stuff the China company wanted was the rights to build the current SAAB line and GM owns the rights to these designs. Apparently GM did not want to see the line moved to China and then three years from now going up against cars they tried to sell here but could not now selling for 50% of what GM was asking.

More interesting news: My insurance guy says coverage will now skyrocket on these cars since they now have no dealer network in the US. He said the last time a car line died here that he knew about was the Stirling, which was made by Rover. Insurance tripled the day they shut down their last dealer.

My dad bought one in approx. '71. It was indeed a sweet car to drive.

if a restaurant serves cold food, has rude servers and high menu prices.....it should go out of business.

You wanna guess how many will be "stolen" over the next few months once the current owners figure this out?

I hope you mean one of the 'old' (pre-94) models.

The ones made after GM took over were awful for a number of years. They improved once they became the 9-3 but according to a friend who worked at a shop that had several customers with them, they're a serious PITA for some jobs and the parts are expensive.

Hard to believe how SAAB and Volvo went down the crapper.

Not around here. Too many tourists. SIGH.

Lots of awful restos in Ottawa, better in Gatineau.

My brother bought a 94 900 when they came out. It was declared a lemon and went back to the stealer.

As for them being swiped.....

North of Dallas there was once a rock quarry that went out of business many years ago. They left a deep hole, about 60 feet, that filled with water and teenagers used to go out there to party.

Then the city moved north and someone bought the land for development. The hole had to be filled in but it had to be drained first.

The bottom of the hole was filled with Jags, Volvos and SAAB's from the 70's. All of them had been reported as theft cars, and all of them had owners that were upside down on them.

I think the cops just let it slide as the stat of limitations had run out.
