The Flu Sucks!

Some years I've gotten the shot, some years I haven't. I've been fortunate enough to escape it, until now. Going on day 4 of just feeling like crap, sure messed up the long Christmas weekend.

I guess I'll be taking my chances with the shot from here in out.

I don't believe the odds of getting the flu versus getting a flu shot is a 1:1 relationship...or however the correct statistical representation should be.

I went years prior not getting a shot...and didn't contract the flu either. I have since gotten the annual flu shot, and I haven't contracted any flu yet.

I think there are several factors in play when it comes to getting the virus.

But at least you arent' dealing with a kidney stone!

I caught swine flu and damn near died. I've never gotten the flu shot and I don't ever plan on it. Most people don't know this but, the "flu" shot one recieves is made for a specific permutation of the flu virus (virus is the key word here) which they believe will strike soon. There are many different ways the flu virus can mutate; the shot you recieve is structured for their "best guess" at what flu virus will actually be ravaging the population.

Everyone I know who didn't get a flu shot...

has gotten the flu this year.

My work involved travel on public transportation and going to public schools (both of which have been described by the CDC as "the fecal soup of society") and after getting the flu 7 years ago and ending up spending 10 days on the fever roller coaster and doing my Aqualung impression, I bit the bullet and have gotten shot up every year since.

The vaccine is a pretty effective plan of action. Anyone who does not get shot up or does not have their kids/seniors shot up deserves what they get. You become a breeder and threaten everyone around you. How about your co-workers and family? Care about them? No? Want them to get REALLY sick and possibly die? (More Seniors and young kids die of the flu than you would think).

Where is the "social responsability" in that?

Sounds e'ffing selfish to me.

Everyone I've ever known who has gotten the shot, got sick immediately afterward.

Also, getting the vaccine automatically guarantees you're a carrier for the virus, so now who's socially responsible??

Very true on the stones. I don't know what the odds are, but after going through it I won't be missing out on the shot next year.

it was actually kind of a close call. I got a fever that shot up to 104 degrees in under two hours. I still felt chilled to the bone even though I had huge sweatdrops rolling. It was horrible. Tylenol stopped it from climbing higher, only an ice bath brought it down. It kicked my ass for a good two weeks.

Bull****!

A carrier WITH the antibodies so you only carry a killed virus.

Basic medicine.

I have had a mild reaction to the vaccine but no where near the real deal.
When I had the real deal I was like Jive, Cold Packs on the head and neck to cool the brain and asprin/tylenol to handle the fever. Ended up with walking pneumoccocis and Clarithromycin for 10 days afterwards.

Just take a walk thru the local ER during a flu epidemic and look at the folks who are in Stage 3. If you are over 60 or under 12 you are in serious trouble. Most kids get it at school and most seniors from family members.

How does this happen, all the time?
Nigeria Sees Polio Outbreak from Mutated Vaccine Virus | PBS NewsHour | Aug. 24, 2009 | PBS

Basic medicine, if you touch the spot where the vaccine went, it can then be spread.
Health News: Smallpox Vaccine Spread Virus Through Family

And who's most likely to touch the area the shot went? Stupid little kids, and grumpy old people. Not to mention, every virus mutates in each host, and then you've got a whole brand new virus.
