I wonder if they used a US or Euro motor.

Such a smashing car but the price is bonkers. Almost worth going to look at as its only 3 hours away. I kind of want to test drive it just to see if its really done to the standard he says. It certainly looks cool. I would ditch the wheels and put steelies and hubcaps back onto it, rotating unsprung mass be damned!

Can find a 280CE for probably under 5k in excellent shape....and a 560 donor for less than 1500 with a good motor I bet depending where you are in the country.....add conversion costs....maybe 7k tops? And you'd have a 280 engine left to sell afterwards.

Yep, I think a W114 would make an even easier conversion as the front and rear sub frame is the same as an W107.

If it was a US spec engine the swap is completely useless. Besides bragging rights it doesn't look like he gained a lot with all the work.

There are 114/115 's in Australia with V8's as standard. I think I have seen a 6.9 . They are getting hard to find these days.

By standard, I'm assuming you don't mean the factory. The biggest engine in the W114 out of the factory was the 2.8L M110 (gas) or the 3.0 Diesel.

Seller is a regular on BenzWorld (and here too I think). IIRC, he used a US 560 and he did a thorough job getting it done right. He's been trying to sell for a long while, but I always thought he was asking way too much.

We have 68's with V8's, the "compact" model, tombstone lights. They have a slight bump in the hood to make them fit. The badge on the back says 280S 6.9 , have seen others, 3.5 & 4.5 I think.

Maybe a 116? ~ No just looked up, definitely a 114/5 body. I think back in 68 they were assembling them in Australia. We had some unusual variations here. If I ever see a V8 one again I will take a pic for you. The last one I saw was a barn find by a local MB mechanic about 4 years ago. it was a surprise to see the V8 under the hood. There is no room left.

Yep, those aren't factory, although I have seen some Australian Fords with some pretty huge Engines out of the factory when compared to their British counterparts so it does not come as a surprise to me that individuals would do that to a Mercedes.

Pretty car but the price is waaaay out there. I'd figure it is a $6,500 car.

I was thinking more like $8,000 or somewhere in that range... I doubt the buyer would go for it. Just because a owner puts in a larger engine in from another car does not mean the price jumps up. Seen this over and over again on other Mercedes forums where engine swaps are done and the seller jacks the price up. I admire the effort but question the logic in the pricing. Who knows though.

the obvious question - or not? - is how all that extra engine weight would affect the handling? (maybe all of you know that already? also, transmission issues, etc.?)

just wondering.

I'd rather have a mint 280CE 5 speed at 1/3 the price.
