Shot fired in an open space behind my house...
I work from home, so today during lunch I observed a police cruiser driving down the bike path normally occupied by joggers and bikers at this time of day. The cruiser stopped, officer came out of the car carrying a rifle - so I went upstairs and got my shotgun ready (just in case).
Turned out to be a couple of coyotees they were after. They fired one shot, but apparently missed because they were walking back and forth fruitlessly trying to find some trace of the animals but don't think they did. I don't have anything against these animals - they never threatened me or my family (thank God). I know they live in the thicket in the open space park behind my house because I can hear them howling now and then. This time maybe they had a run-in with somebody and that's why the officers showed up...

You could call the police department and ask if there was an incident. Tell them you live really close and use that pathway a lot.
I was thinking unless they threatend somebody at least the police would not have been there. Usually they stay pretty much out of sight. Or our local specis do. Our local ones are so large you could not run away fast enough with your pants filled if they were close to you. The true coyote is 28 pounds maximum. Our hybreds are averaging 75 plus pounds. Here and along the eastern seaboard of the northern states. They have been renamed. They have attacked people and killed them as well in this province. |

I have no sympathy for 'yotes, but I'd question cops shooting at them. Doesn't your state have a Game and Fish department? I'd call, report it and politely inquire about the rationale for possibly dangerous live fire going on in my neighborhood directed at animals.
