My favorite machinist had a heart attack

My best buddy and favorite machinist, cohort in many ill considered and otherwise great adventures of dragging home derelect cars had a heart attack Saturday night.

He leads a pretty active life and is in decent shape, it would seem, but nevertheless had a 98% blockage in one of his heart vessles and went in and got a stint put in yesterday.

I was on my way home a bit early to do some mercedes parting and garage cleaning when his #3 son called and told me he was in the VA hospital in Indy. I went home, grabbed a bite and headed down to pay a visit. There was no time to waste since they barely let the blood dry now before sending people home.

He was in good spirits but tired. They did the proceedure with him conscious all the time so he did not have any grogginess or nausia. We sat and talked for about 45 minutes before another buddy of his showed up with his wife and son.

Since he is barely two months older than I am and I have been having an odd pain in my upper left chest area which I have been putting on a muscle strain of some kind I think I will make an appointment for my yearly well physical and request a stress test.

Yikes!

Every male over 50 should have a stress test.
Man's capacity for self delusion knows no boundaries.
Ask me how I know.
Do it Tom.

Yes, thanks, I have a stent, thought originally it was acid reflux. No chest pains.

Get an MRI, that's what will show the blockage--settle for nothing less, stress test is secondary.

Definately go get your heart checked out. I have a Right Atrial Aneurysm which is pretty uncommon.

Ah yes, acid reflux. In my case I thought it was an ulcer or hiatal (sp?) hernia. Fast forward through 12-15 years of self denial and you end up in deep doo do, hoping for salvation.

BTW gentlemen, how is your wife's health? More women die from heart disease than men. (Watch the video)

How much damage to the heart?

My first heart attack @32 was just a scratch. The eight @ 49took out the lower section and turned me into an old man.

Sorry to hear that, Tom. Glad to hear he's recovering, though.

Definitely get yourself checked out!

Sorry to hear that. I have a friend who's been living for years with stents although I seem to recall a recent report that raised questions about their effectiveness.

Ain't that the truth! Two years ago I had a case of the "flu" or so I kept telling myself. Just couldn't shake it off. Shucks, I'm tough, just going through a busy time at work and home, as soon as the end of year stuff is done I'll relax and beat it. December 17th I'm in the hospital, one lung completely filled with pneumonia and the other 40% closed. On a respirator, life support, the whole shebang. 22 days, two surgeries later I was out of the hospital with 40% lung capacity. I had to recuperate for 6 months before I could even think about going back to work.

All because I thought I was still 22.
