Degrees of moral disgust

Why is John Edwards particularly loathsome?

"There is literal disgust and moral disgust, and the two overlap," says Jonathan Haidt, professor of psychology at the University of Virginia. "Betrayal, hypocrisy, certain kinds of baseness trigger the brain's moral response."

Cheated on the most solemn Earthly oath of his life, his wedding vows. You can't get any scummier than that.

Point? How are the 2 related? Wasn't there already a thread about it HERE but you needed to start another one and point it out in a thread that clearly wasn't about Barbour?

Larry, believe me when I tell you that regardless of what you think, when you deal with people, they WILL find a way that is scummier that what you think is the scummiest way and if they cannot find it, they will invent it. I expect the worst in people and they seldom disappoint me. As the House MD saying goes, "People lie".

Zofran might help. Or Pepto Bismol if it isn't so bad.

Once you get used to politicians of all sides being bad, you won't find that same feeling anymore. Expect the worst. Anything better is a blessing and a reason to be happy. If the worst comes, you are prepared. Simple recipe for avoiding disappointment. Usually it is lowered expectations. In the case of politicians be they Democrat, Independent or Republican, expect the worst. Politics will bring out the worst in people.

Listen, Grasshopper, to the voice of experience:D

I'm often characterized as morose, brooding and pessimistic, but I'd not like to spend my life looking for the worst in people.

Haha..yeah I have had that badge placed on me before also.
However, I would classify someone with your disposition as merely being based in reality.:)

Ah, but Sir, I am usually happy. You see, when you do your worst, I am mentally prepared so you don't disappoint me. When you score better, I am pleasantly surprised. OTOH, expecting the best in people, quite often leads to disappointment when they fail to live up to your hope. No hope, no disappointment. Think of it like lending money to relatives. Don't expect to see it back. IF you do get it back, you are happy. If not, you wrote it off. I have the same attitude at the casino. Write off the stake. Win money? Happy. Break even? Happy. Lose the stake? Fine. Already considered lost before I went in.
