Things that shouldn't be allowed thread.

I think that NOBODY should be able to call themselves a Doctor unless they went to Medical school.:D

You're going to upset a bunch of PhDs. Conversely, tons of people go to medical school and don't end up as MDs. Nurses, for instance.

How about non-military southerners called Colonel?

NOPE. If you don't heal people, you have NO business calling yourself a Doctor. That includes Chiropractors.

What about a licensed psychologist? My father is one and has a PhD and treats people's mental illnesses but did not go to medical school, is he not a Doctor?

An exception, mental Doctors heal in a GREAT way, don't ask me how I know that.:rolleyes:

In the latest bout of upgrades, Nurse Practitioners are allowed to call themselves Dr when they graduate. They earn a DnP. Doctor of Nursing Practice.

I'd trust the Voodoo Priest way before I trust a mindfawk. I have twisted them around my finger to say what I want them to say even before I graduated Grade School. I have no use for them whatsoever.

Haha... My father found that he couldn't afford to spend another few years going to school once he got his PhD in psychology. I think that is why most psychologists don't become psychiatrists. I do still believe that a person who has earned a PhD should be addressed as Dr. _____ just because of the amount of work it takes to earn it.

Most people with doctoral degrees are properly called doctor. The lone exception I can think of is that I've never heard of someone with a Juris Doctor degree (a lawyer in other words) being so addressed.

In the German language they don't have this issue. They have the word doktor for one who possesses some or another doctoral degree, while one who heals is an arzt.

You must have a slightly different system on your side of the pond.
A psychologist cannot become a a psychiatrist here without going to medical school & becoming a regular doctor as well (general practitioner).
Over here a GP calls them self a Dr, a surgeon or any other post doctoral medical provider like a psychiatrist or neurologist, calls them self Mr or Ms.
I am not sure what a vet is called, I think its Dr.

Its not important what they call them self, its how good they are. Google is a great way of finding all about medico's.

The only one I resist is the preacher, pastor or theologian who insists on using the Dr. title. Then I think it is really bogus.
