70+ MPG cars

If you find more vehicles that fit, please post the link.
Would you consider buying one as a commuter?
Which one is interesting to you, and why = style, speed, MPG, size/capacity.

NO political rants/attacks here, just basic information.

Handy mpg converter from imperial to U.S. gallons and back....

Unit Conversions

Cars overseas are often rated in imperial, resulting in higher numbers than the U.S. gallon

If I were a rich man and I wanted a new car I'd be going for a 1.6 TDI Audi A3 if I just had to go to work in it.

Please note this car qualifies for UK MPG @ 70MPG!!!!!!!

The Avion tickles my fancy...

Quote:
The car has been designed to be manufactured in small volume using recycled components from the automobile recycling yards.
and then some reference to a Mercedes diesel engine....

Can't put the pieces together but sounds interesting

I think the blue motion is pants!

It did remind me of the top gear race - that Jag was lush

Economy race (Jaguar XJ vs Subary Legacy vs VW Polo) Top Gear [Part 1]

Oh yes I am with you here . However the topic was/is about cars above 70MPG so the Polo is very good contender

At first glance the Loremo looks fantastic. 150mpg's at $13.000.00. But I'd like to know about safety. I suspect it's close to a mobile coffin. And pretty darned sure there's no A/C. Which makes it a non starter for me.

What about first-gen Honda Insight 5spd? That car can easily exceed 70mpg. I have a CVT (auto) and my last tank of around 70/30 hwy/city driving yielded 62mpg. My current tank looks to be at 58mpg of 40/60 hwy/city driving.

I suppose there's alot of composites in that car. I doubt it's any more unsafe then some of the cars these days.

Plus, no battery's to blow up in a crash

I don't care about batteries, only the structural integrity in a crash. Then there's still the issue of a/c. Might be fine in Canada, useless in Phoenix.

Imperial gallons are used in the British empire mainly. The rest of Europe uses liters.

Three wheelers register as motorcycles in the US. Probably the best chance we could see useful, economical transport any time soon. No airbags, seat belts, bumpers, etc. Light, cheap, small, efficient.

The automotive/petroleum/roadbuilding/suburbanizing/banking/insurance/legislation industry will rally an army of lobbyists to stop any threat to their golden goose. Same-same won't change without a revolution/purge.

US exports of diesel fuel are too profitable to be challenged soon in any meaningful way.
