Oil question

I just bought some Mobil1 oil in a 5.1 qt container. Could some one explain the ".1" qt. My cars hold 8.5 qts and 7.5 qts. What do I do with the ".1" qt? I guess I could save it for the next 5 oil changes and will only need 7 or 8 qts. What will they think of next?

My guess would be that .1 of oil never makes it out of the bottle. Ever pour cold motor oil, and it seems like there is a thick coat of the inside?

lorain's guess makes sense to me.

Either way, 3 oz of oil isn't going to make much difference either way.

I don't really understand the "saving" it aspect; if you're anal (like many of us) you'll pour in 8.5 USQ and have a half-bottle hanging out in the trunk. ;) I do know some who just dump in 8, and then add a quart when it drops, though. Again, that 3 oz won't make much of a difference...even assuming it does come out of the bottle.

Just dump that .1 into your diesel tank, at least you won't feel like you've wasted any oil, and you can use the old empty containers to store your old used oil before disposing of it.:)

At first I thought that it represented the conversion of 5 liters to quarts, but 5 liters is approximately 5.3 quarts. Odd packaging...

They got a deal on the odd-sized packages??

Is it 5.1 quarts of oil or 5.0 quarts of oil in a 5.1 quart container?
