Any employer should be able to deny birth control

I guess the Republicans must think male votes are enough to get them into office:

McConnell: Any employer should be able to deny birth control | The Raw Story

I don't see how it is in the GOP's political interests to do this. A few months ago they were trying to explain why it was a bad thing that Obama got so many of our people out of Iraq. Then they acted all outraged that he is getting us out of Afghanistan more quickly than some expected. Now they want to make it harder for women to get birth control.

Voters are a mystery to me, but this all seems a bit crazy.

A quote from one of the commenters from the link:

"Your employer is your employer--- not your parent, not your spiritual advisor, not your ruler, or your jailer. As long as you do your job, your personal life is not your employer's business."

Because if it was, employers should stop paying health-coverage for people that eat unhealthy, smoke, don't exercise etc. etc. And I'm sure there are many more things employers would love to have a say in concerning our personal lives.

Stuff like this shows you how out of touch the republican party really is.

With 99% of US women using contraception (98% of Catholic women), one wonders why the Republicans aren't avoiding this issue like the plague. Anyone know what Bachman and Palin have been saying about this? Neither is a Catholic. Anyone heard anything from a female Catholic politician about it?

The RNC is framing it as a religious freedom issue and the Dems are a day late and a dollar short in explaining that it is a womens health issue. The RNC voters who are listing to this debate are going to vote against the womens health.

Female Catholic politician had supported the original proposal for free contraception:

So what are employers doing covering health care for their employees in the first place?

Rhetorical question. I already know how it got started. I also think it's past time for that particular institution to end.

a reader's comment from the link that wasposted above

Just to be clear here, now McConnell is saying that he wants my employer to be able to dictate my religious beliefs to me.

We've gone in one day from saying that prohibiting the church from telling me what to do violates *their* religious freedom but allowing my secular employer to dictate my religious beliefs isn't a violation of my freedom.

So the Catholic Church has religious freedom, corporations have religious freedom, but citizens don't.

These people aren't even trying anymore. They're just evil thugs.

This is about the infringement on business being FORCED to provide any item, such as item X. It just so happens that in this case, item X happens to be birth control pills.

What if item X were Bibles, not Larry, but Holy? The government should not be allowed to force ANYONE, a business or otherwise, to provide anything to another party.

Clear about what Jim? What is McConnell trying to dictate to you? I didn't understand clearly (or otherwise) what you think is being dictated to you with this post.

Any employer should be able to deny any insurance. Or provide no insurance at all. The gov despotically commanding private enterprise to provide some non work-related benefit to private citizens is wrong.
