Chair lifts

Any one have experience or reccommendations? Looks like my parents may have to move into my sister's house and a stair lift will be necessary. Looking on Craigslist it doesn't seem that difficult to find a used system. Any ones to avoid? Any particular models to seek out? I'm thinking the version that bolts to the tread as opposed to the wall will be easier to install.

I think you are looking for a lift chair. My only experience with chair lifts has been going up a mountain in order to ski down. Of course, I may be wrong.

No, a stair lift, the kind of chair that runs on a track up a set of stairs.

I have a online subscription to Consumer Reports and checked there, but did not find any type of testing on such a system.

I have one of those in my carriage house that we put in for Cathy's mom. I first bought one used but she was not comfortable getting in and out of it so she bought a new one.....6 or 7000 IIRC. That was about 20 years ago. at about ten or twelve years we had to have the wiring harness replaced but otherwise it is still in good condition. We use it occasionally to run things up and down the stairs.

I suspect we would sell it but we are a long way from colorado.

Yes, new ones are pretty pricey. My sister's in NY so I'm looking for one around there. Do you know what exactly made the first one uncomfortable?

The seat was small and there was not much of a footrest to step onto. It was just too iffy for her.
