Scrap value of alumnum?

I have a big dodge aluminum wheel and a bunch of misc aluminum parts I could sell for scrap if i want. How much is it going for now? any special tips about it?

There used to be a 10/20 dollar keg deposit, and people were getting more scrapping them, now I think they hit you for 30.

I like to recycle all metals for income or otherwise as I hate the notion of putting energy into digging up and smelting ore only to bury it back in the ground onna account of laziness.

I save all plumbing valves and fixtures as most of that stuff is made of brass. That and copper are the metals that will bring you some money, I save aluminum also but I don't usually make much from it. IIRC, clean alum is around $.70 now. I'd save a wheel but I doubt you'll get much more than $10 for it, if that.

"Clean" is the key. If it has even tiny steel expansion pins or screws holding anything together, the price goes way down. I check everything with a magnet - if it's not too tough, I'll get the steel out. If it involves 15 minutes work for a tidbit that will yield less $1 in metal, I just toss it all into the scrap steel bin.

About once a year I'll take it in - last time I got $186.

Not sure. I know there are some pretty fancy alloys of aluminum - I suspect wheels would be a higher quality one.

extruded aluminum is worth half again what clean is. and that could be what LME stands for. usually a wheel will weigh 25 lbs or so.last i knew it was a in that .70-.80 range a pound.15-20 bucks a wheel should be about right.depending on how big.if it's a 3/4 ton wheel they could bring half again as much.

yeah, I have some mb bumpers which I can knock the steel off I think and some benz engine adapters so I might be able to get up to 100# more or less. I think I will keep my ac compressor bracket.

The 123 alloy wheels weigh in at about 14-15 pounds I think. I have a pile of them but resist letting them go as scrap.

The price of aluminum is not at a peak currrently I believe. A mercedes rim should bring about 15.00. I may be off a little here but it should be in the ballpark.

I would not scrap a good benz wheel either but if I had some which were bent I probably would.

Hey, they're made of copper. Better way to get rid of them then the landfill!

I wish I knew more about that. They previously burned the insulation off of wiring. Nasty sort of smoke that comes from that. It's been outlawed in the US. I understand they now use 'choppers' which cuts it all up into tiny pieces which are then agitated and abraded so that the copper separates from the insulation. The whole mix is then subjected to wind tunnels of sorts that channels the stuff into separate containers.

Word I've heard is that they still burn it off in China, where much of our used wire is sent, again, so I gather. Not too sure about any of it. I take used wire to the scrap yard along with copper and brass but it rarely amounts to much $$.
