Video of Shooting at Monterey Carl's JR

Carl's Jr - guy with pipe bender-analysis - YouTube

This is brutal and don't watch it if you shouldn't see brutality.

This video raises concerns about the loss of our humanity. Some of the viewpoints I hear these days are a lesser form of the same.

How many lemmings will you follow over a cliff?

I know what you mean. I have a few co workers who seem to love to watch those videos of the Mexican drug cartels slitting each others throats and what not. I refuse to watch that crap.

Ugh, murdering swine. I'd drink a toast if something happened to them in the line of duty -- karma can be a bytch. 5 shots to the back? They deserve the gas chamber, or at least life in general population, Folsom Prison.

when confronted, a cop is going to always shoot first, ask questions later. count on it. the guy should have put his weapon down and done like the Native American did in the movie, "Beyond the Law".

"When surrounded by crazy white men, give the f*** up".

But, perhaps he didn't want to live, so instead he may have chosen to go out in a blaze of glory known as "Suicide by Cop".

... or at least had a better weapon than a bow and arrow in the case of the movie.

exactly, if one doesn't have the muscle, get out of the fight. What's that old story, "Never bring a knife to a gun fight??".

The reason the cop shot 10 times was a stress reaction.

Under stress most individuals unless they are highly trained tend to tense up and simply pull the trigger until the gun goes click. (I'm assuming that was a Glock 17, so it at least has a 17 round mag if I remember correctly) Quite frankly I'm surprised he didn't empty the mag. Aiming also isn't done. This is why you see shoot outs with 30 shots fired and half are in the floor or ceiling.

It would take someone with a very high level of training to only put a couple rounds center mass in a situation like that, while moving so any over penetration or missed shots would hit the building. I doubt most SWAT members could do that. More like special forces, guys that shoot for a living.

This is a very typical situation, most police officers don't shoot enough, and are very poor with firearms and have little or most likely no combat pistol training. The outcome is this.

OTOH the guy was probably a scum bag so who cares.

The perp was way out of line but the commentary about the officers' behavior seems spot on to me. The officer looking down while walking and fumbling with his weapon/taser-whatever (!?) is a trip. Unbelievable. And the dog could have been used to advantage. He'd have had that ass down in a hearbeat. Would have been easy to collar that guy.

Well hindsight is always 20/20. We could all think of better ways to handle it but in the moment we might take same same action as the cops.

assuming the dog was better trained at taking down perps than the cops were. another example of your tax dollars at work.

I have no problem with the cop shooting the guy. I *do* have a problem with the cop shooting the guy *5 ADDITIONAL TIMES* with his back turned. There's defense, and there's overkill. This qualified as overkill, and the cop should rot in prison for it.

normally in police shootings, the cop involved is placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. standard procedure.

I dunno, looks like poor training to me. The guy was practically a bumbling idiot. His partner had his gun out, the perp was brandishing a club, and he's stumbling along while looking down. Who knows, maybe it was suicide by cop, nonetheless, videos like that ought to be used in police training as an example of what can go wrong w/o the proper discipline and awareness.

Cops could have handled that better, as others have pointed out. I do think the extra five rounds in the back were excessive and probably won't play well in front of a jury if it comes to that.

BTW, I ate at Carl's Jr. this evening for the first time in a long time. It was tasty, but my intestines are reminding me why I don't eat there very often.
