Not "won't" but "can't". You won't buy enough of them to justify the cost of designing the engine, making sure there are adequate parts and training, etc, etc. How many people will commit to a diesel powered F150? If there are enough sales, they will stuff whatever you want in whatever vehicle. Just because you build it doesn't mean they will come.

if they can get em up over 30 mpg for a full size pickup like the f150 there will be waiting lists a mile long.i've been after something to retire my 92 chevy.i don't need 800h.p. and 5000 lb ft of torque to push an almost all the time empty truck down the road.and my max load would be maybe 800lbs.or pulling my skidloader trailer.thats it.

Back in 2000 with the 7.3, the "Diesel Premium" was about $8000. I just checked today on Ford.com and it is $7960 more for the diesel option. So if you are running a fleet, maybe but if not, how much driving are you doing that will justify the sticker price of $8000 more up front? In my 7.3, dumping the oil every time, it takes about 4 gallons of oil. Not sure about the newer trucks. I'm going to have to drive a lot of miles before that $8000 plus interest gets paid up. If I didn't have to have diesel for my truck, I wouldn't. In my car, now that I am not traveling 200 miles a day, I don't really see the hassle paying off.

Sounds like you need a 2WD 4cyl Ranger Mine gets 25-28mpg, and has towed a dolly & S-10 ~500 miles no problem.

I'd say Fawked Over Rebuilt Dodge but I'd buy a Ford before I buy a Dodge or a Government Motors.

I don't think the market is really there for a diesel half-ton. They're the same size as a HD, cost almost as much, and even a diesel option won't give that much of a FE benefit now that everyone has to have 400+HP and as much torque as a big rig used to have. I do, however, think there is a market for a compact diesel PU. It's a market segment that doesn't exist and it wouldn't steal sales from the HD segment.

Keep in mind also that much of the diesel premium is returned at resale, unless you happen to have bought one of Ford's recent dogs. Today, with the draconian and complicated emission controls, there is no purpose in owning a diesel HD unless you really need it. A half-ton V8 with cylinder deactivation will deliver the same highway FE for thousands less and on a slightly cheaper fuel.
