cv joint balls?

I am working on my Formula ford today. I am reassembling the rear halfshaft . In assembling the cv joint I find I am one ball short. (OK I can hear the jokes now). anybody know where I can get a ball bearing ball that is about 9/16" diameter, please?

9/16 inch Grade 100 Chrome Steel Balls (pack of 100) Loose Ball Bearings - Bearing King

Thanks for the link! I took it over to my favorite machinists and he measured it with a caliper. It is actually 11/16".

And I looked up the cv joint. It is available in equal to what I have for about $60. For another 70 I can get a version that has all the fat trimmed out and weighs 12 oz less.

Hmmmmmmmm......guess which one I am going to buy?

This is a bargain since I have calculated that each pound saved translates into at least $100 in cost when buying lighter parts.

I am going to take some stuff out of the car though and those pounds will be mostly free except for my labor.

In that application, it seems like a fine trade of money for weight! or less weight as the case may be.

If you wanted to go over board you could bore the shafts ~ make them hollow. The middle 1/4" does nothing.
There was a Toyota that had a hollow camshaft.

Right, Layback, good idea. I am looking to see if bored half shafts are available, I think they are. It is called shot bored I believe. I suspect the hole could be larger than 1/4" too. there is serious weight to be saved there too.

Anybody have any of the cv joints lying around? they were used in VW's must have been the super beetles. The six evenly spaced attachment bolts are on a 78 mm diameter pattern.

I bought a used cv from a local place that does a lot of vw work. So I should be good.
