OK woodchuck chuckers

It was silly Sunday today...

How long do you think it took me to cut through this log with a handsaw?

The saw in the picture is 55cm long.

It's Beech (quite a hard wood)

Was it a "Son of a Beech" to cut?

I have the same saw and had to cut a small piece of wood the other week but because it was so small it was tricky keeping the blade under control. A large log like that would go much faster so I guessed 20-40 minutes.

We used to have a dedicated wood saw with nice big teeth...haven't seen it in a number of years

You must hate your self Army !!
Dont you have a chainsaw? It would go through that like a hot knife through butter !!!
Its still green so the saw was probably sticking.
Those logs would make great car stands.

I guessed 20 to 40 too. Obviously some sort of competition? I assumed you have a nice sharp saw and are in supurb physical condition.

Depends a lot on the saw. I have had saws that litterly fell through wood. They are scarce and nice to own. Then there are average and poor saws.

Your time would depend a lot on the cutting abiity of the saw more than anything else I would think. So I cannot guess the time.

I still have a smaller decent crossbuck saw that has not touched wood in decades. The best hand saw I ever owned was perhaps 100 years old. It was a long bladed mortise box saw. Just about fell through the wood.

Normal/Simple Job: Cutting through chunk of wood ... 30-60 Minutes

+ Wife (in vacinity): Add 60 minute (Her wants trump your needs...otherwise your needs go needless...

+ Kids (w/Wife telling about the kids): Add + Wife and multiply by 1.25 for each kid over 13, multiply by 1.99 for each kid under 13...

+ Any In-law/Parent: Per said item: + Wife AND multiply by 1.75, an additional 1.75 if you enjoy what they're saying...

Alcohol involved: Change minutes to hours/hours to days and days to weeks. If incoherent babbling set in, screw the job...it ain't getting done.

Wife/Kids/In-Laws-Parents: You need the alcohol more than you need the trunk cut. Hire some kid from the local "Rent-a-Hand" and let him cut the trunk and work on the "Honey-Do" list 'til the 4-hour minimum is used up. Continue with the alcohol sedation.

Sorry to disappoint - I'm English - hence the St George Cross avatar.

So do you need to revise the time?

No competition...

...there is a purpose...

...I have to report that I'm getting old and fat - so physical condition is somewhat lacking!

Classic post - so true!

On this silly Sunday the wife and children were off visiting "Oma" so I had a free run at it...

I started off by looking at the job and wishing I did have a chainsaw - or another excuse not to get it done...

...but then I heard some sort of sergeant major type voice in the back of my head growing =>

"Gerd it done"

(Can't remember who it was now)

So you think it will be used as an axle stand do you?

Wrong!

What else could I be doing this for?

I wondered why you tackled the cut originally. Hearing voices as you mentioned telling you to do it answers the question somewhat. This is meant to be humour.

Since it is pretty safe to say that you are over 45 perhaps an hour?

I think there may be a very small percentage of beechwood trees in my area.Al
though I do not remember seeing them.We even have a small population of cherrywood trees this far north but they do not attain any real useful size.
